MEXT Scholarship 2016 (Research)

I don't mind posting here, in case this situation applies to others as well

Yes, my wife will arrive later (hopefully December). It turns out that Tokodai will not sponsor her visa after all, despite being told they would...I don't blame them, since she's not a student, but still -- I wasn't informed until about a week ago. Thus, I need to apply for her certificate of eligibility (CoE) at Tokyo Immigration once I get there, and then she will apply for the visa (with the CoE) afterwards. Hopefully she'll be able to come in December like we planned!

I am in university housing at first (Shofu Dorm, Yokohama). I will start looking for apartments as soon as I arrive, hopefully within walking/biking distance of my lab. Tokodai tells me that they will assign me a "tutor" to help with this search; the tutor is a senior undergrad Japanese student who speaks English (almost like orientation volunteers in the US). The dorm is just for single males, so my wife can't join me until I find private housing (and she needs the visa).
But I will say -- the Shofu Dorm is crazy cheap! Staying there for a couple months will help save money for a private apartment later. And it is a few mins walk from the station. So not all bad

As for moving preparations, I have finished selling/storing all my stuff in the US and now squeezing all my remaining possessions into two suitcases and two carry-on bags

Can I participate in this scholarship if I only have a 3 year bachelor? (15 years of education in total).

I have 15 years of education in total and I passed the first screening.
I am over 22 years old though.

Check the qualifications and condition here.

After reading all the comments about the final screening, I got really anxious. I was only able to secure one LoA and it's from Waseda.
Hopefully everything goes well for me and for those who are in the same position as me.

Hello friends ....
I need your help please .. For those who have information about MARRIED COUPLE please do help me ....
Now we are all waiting for the second screening results .
In case i got accepted officially as a MEXT officially grantee and went to Japan on April 2016 my issue is :
When i submitted my application form before the first screening i mentioned that i was SINGLE .
Now i have decided to get married ... what should i do in order to take my future wife with me ?? :
1-Is it possible to inquire the embassy for a visa for my wife ??
OR
2- Should i get married first then apply for my wife after arriving in Japan ??
NOTE:
"i am asking you before consulting the embassy because if there will be a penalty, i don't want to take such a risk without consultation .

Again.. please do help me ... Thank you and all the best for us all

I started the MEXT Scholarship this month, and I am married

Please understand -- it makes no real difference to anyone whether you are married or not, except that most universities do not have dormitories for couples so private accommodation is required. So, you should ask the Embassy any questions you have. They do not control the visa for your wife (note that you cannot get her visa until you are officially married..."engaged" is irrelevant). If you are lucky, your selected university will sponsor both of your visas (again, after you are actually married). However, you will probably need to apply for her certificate of eligibility (CoE) yourself once you arrive in Japan, then send it to your wife in her home country so that she can apply for the visa at the Embassy.

Right now, I am in the process of securing my wife's visa so that she can join me (and I need to find an apartment). Originally, my university (Tokyo Tech) said they would sponsor her visa, but about 5 days before I departed they said they would not...so I have to now undertake the process myself.
Hopefully this gave you some helpful information!

Thank you very much my friend

So let me say if i am not mistaken you arrived in Japan on April 2015 ... Since you had to take the Japanese language preparation course you are not officially student so you needed to wait till the actual course starts "October" in order to apply for you wife's visas officially ... Am i correct ??
Second thing if you succeeded to bring your wife ... the question is : who will cover her expenses ?? i mean does MEXT will cover hers as they are covering your expenses ??
And above all of that, whats written in your MEXT application form previously wont affect or penalized you at any sort possible ??

Thank you again for the efforts you made for clearing my doubts
I hope that your wife will join you soon ... and i wish to you both a happy stay in Japan
wish me the same

Uh oh I think I got a problem here.
I used my full name as mentioned in passport to apply for the scholarship. However, all the attached documents were in different names. My name in the passport consist of First, Middle, and Last name. In other documents, my name is consist of first and middle name only, without the last name. I have passed the primary screening, but i feel really anxious right now. Does anyone have a problem like this before?

hellow !!!!Am new in this forum.
is there anyone going to hokkaido university?
Also I need to know something What if I have got only one LOA will it narrow chances of getting scholarship at the end?

As far as i know from my discussion with the embassy ... One LOA will not narrow down your chances ... They told my that to ensure me and that was before i secured my other two LOAs
So don't worry, everything will proceed smoothly .
All the best

Does someone knows if anybody was rejected at second screening last year?

I'm feeling very anxious for the results and there is a long wait ahead yet.

I'm very anxious too. I applied for Waseda, Keio and Kyoto.
Is there anyone who also got a LoA from Waseda?

Great schools - Keio turned me down, haha. What is your field? We are all in the same boat, wait wait waiting.

My field is higher education policy. What's yours?
What universities sent you LoA??

Kobe University, Sophia, and Tsukuba University

I started this month (Oct 2015), and I am in the language course now. My official doctoral course starts in April 2016. However, I can apply for my wife's visa at any time. MEXT does not cover any expenses related to my wife, whatsoever (only for me). So, the scholarship alone will have to cover both of us (she does some freelance writing, so we're applying to get special permission to work part-time for her to continue). As long as you do not lie in any of your documents, having a change in situation is not a problem -- they can't keep you from marrying or anything! Just inform them when things change. Good luck!

Thanks man ..

You truly have helped me a lot, to the point that you made me have no further questions
Again thank you and all the best for both of you

How is everyone here coping with the wait?

I have sort of enjoyed the down time - I've got lots of things on the go as I finish up an MA degree here.

I'm not enjoying so much the wait, but meanwhile, I'm preparing myself for JLPT next month.

Waiting is killing me ... But i managed to decrease the tension by learning some Japanese along with moving on the daily routine

It is always useful to continue to practice japanese language with the waiting time.

The wait is terrible!!!

I somehow try to not think too much about that, and focus on my regular job as well as studying Japanese and some other skills to prepare beforehand for my research/masters.

I've heard from the Embassy, as well as some MEXT students from my country, that the results of the second screening should come around mid December 2015 and the final result (after MEXT contacts the University and the professor) around January 2016. Is it the same for everyone??

If you get your second screening results be sure to share with everyone else so we can celebrate together heheh
