MEXT Scholarship 2016 (Research)

Why do not try to sent them an email questioning if they received your previous emails? if they do not reply, try contacting other professors as quickly as possible.
Have you tried to contact other universities? remember that at the placement of preference, we have three universities spots to fill. So, how is it with other universities? Have they replied at your emails?

I havent sent a confirmation email which is a good idea and i will today. I just tryed sending to another 2 universities but its been only a week for those.. so ill wait and see what happens... thanks for the advice everyone ill post if anything new happens

Hey Search, I understand how you feel as some Japanese professors are usually very busy and it might take a while for them to reply to your e-mails (not always the case but frequently happens). Also consider that some of them might not feel too confident replying to you in English (in case you are contacting them in English), so if you are going for a first approach I would try writing that e-mail in both English and Japanese just in case hehe.

Additionally, you might want to try some e-mail tracking tools just to make sure your e-mails were received by the professors, it could help you have a better idea of what is the status of your communication with them, I use them and they really help a lot, sometimes it's good (you know that they are interested) and sometimes not so much (when they ignore you hahaha).

Hi everyone , I am new member here, I am from Iraq, I have signed up in this website a month ago but for unknown reasons i couldn't get the confirmation link.
Anyways, My English examination and the interview were held last Wednesday, I just want to ask what is the cut off level that i have to get to pass the English exam ??, And regarding the interview, the people there asked me general questions regarding the main reason that encouraged me planning to study in japan and how you are going to spend your time there and question regarding the food and life style and i have answered those question in a good way as i am presuming ... Now i am wondering how are those questions going to affect my assessment in order to be selected as MEXT candidate ??

Wish me luck please... i am in a lot of stress :nailbiting::nailbiting:

I have received word from my first choice that they will be mailing my letter of acceptance today/tomorrow. Going to have to find a really safe place to store it before submitting to the Consulate. Hope my apartment doesn't flood or anything!

,Hi. I'm from Indonesia. We've been already informed about the results of the interview since July 14.
Are there anybody applying for research student at Todai (U-Tokyo) ? I'm stuck with the application form.

I wish the best for us all.

Hello, I am from Malaysia. The Malaysian embassy has just sent an e-mail to the candidates who passed the interview about 20 minutes ago.

Going to start preparing documents now. Anybody who plans to submit one LoA instead of three?

Sigh. No email for me. Looks like the end of the road for me then guys... :dead:

It's been a swell month spent loitering here anyway. To those who succeeded, congrats and good luck with your second screening guys and gals.

To those still awaiting their results of first screening... good luck!

Eiraku here signing off...

Wait, so if we didn't pass the primary screening we don't get any notification? Starting to panic here since I haven't heard anything yet.

It would depend on the Japan embassy in each country. In Indonesia, the results of primary screening are announced on the embassy website. Not by email.

Sorry to hear that, bro
I was actually giving up hope to receive any update from MEXT, and already started seizing career opportunity in Tokyo.
I wish you best of luck in pursuing your dreams.

I think it differs from embassy to embassy. Some of the people here received notification for not passing the interview. If you haven't got any update from the embassy, it is best to call the embassy for clarification as it is already the very end of July. Good luck!

always been a silent reader here, coming from malaysia too, I did not get any email so I guess I did not make it. thanks for all the sharing and good luck to those who passed!

p.s: ya kinda sad no notification even if we do not pass. lol

I've presumed that Malaysian embassy will have no update (or update that comes late) to inform people who have not passed the screening. Remember the invigilator announced that they would notify everyone regarding the update via e-mail during our written examinations? But I saw someone here mentioned that he/she didn't receive any notification when most of us who passed the written examinations had already received invitation to the interview through e-mail. I guess that is just how Malaysian embassy works. Nevertheless, it is always best to call and get a confirmation from the embassy.

p/s: I applied for the other scholarship earlier this year and I got no news at all from the local authority, only to be informed that I was not selected after I sent an e-mail to ask for the result. I think we are accustomed to this kind of treatment since growing up in Malaysia, aren't we?

my friend from last batch of monbusho research 2015 said that there was notification even if not selected. so just to make sure and make my heart at ease, i'm just gonna send an email asking about the status... then only i can close the case and really focus on other stuff hehe

Same here . Havent heard anything yet. Try calling the embassy. We were told that the result will be delayed by 2 weeks.

I'm also planning to only get a LoA from Kyoto University. I found a professor I like there and I don't want to risk getting assigned to a different university.
Not sure if it's the smart option though...

Same here. I contacted a Todai's professor and I got a welcoming response from him. I even went to Tokyo to visit the professor and his peers in the lab. I really like the lab, and the life in Tokyo.

On the other hand, I didn't receive a friendly response from the professor of my second choice, and the last university didn't even reply to my e-mail at all.

It's definitely not a smart option to submit just one LoA; indeed, it's a dumb move in my case because Todai is a hot choice among candidates from all around the world.

w00t I love my professor already (no-homo) I just received an email with my LoA and he told me the physical version is already mailed ^_^

Todai's process of getting a letter is a pain thought isn't it? Registered mail, and whatnot. This is topped only by Keio or Waseda's processes... The latter of the two requires four pictures.

Okay this morning I got an e-mail from the Malaysian embassy saying that I was selected as the reserved candidate haha. they say there is chance for me to get if any other candidate rejects the offer by the end of August...

chances of people rejecting is slim though..

So hypothetically speaking, if you get 3 LOA's from 3 universities, what are the chances of getting placed in your 3rd choice? Any ideas?

Hey this advice is amazing i didnt even know email tracking tools existed, i actually thought about the english communication problem but my japanese is not good enough to make a formal email so i guess ill just stick with that. Whats starting to make me panic is the fact that i already sent emails to another university and its happening the same thing. Ill totally check those tools and im gonna change from hotmail to gmail just to make sure. Thank you for everything

Edit: Here is some insight of my communication with the student support office just in case its useful for someone. http://puu.sh/jjQon/1abaaf4949.png

I got this information from MEXT website :

JAPANESE GOVERNMENT (MONBUKAGAKUSHO:MEXT)SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2015(RESEARCH STUDENTS):文部科学省

My (temporary) conclusion : the placement will depend on our exams results (written and interview), as well as our research proposal and the availability of our chosen universities.
