MEXT Scholarship 2015 (Research Students)

Hello Everybody
My embassy told me that in March they willl announce the departure date and give us the ticket. On the other hand, Is anyone already signed a pledge?. Just asking, beacuse I have to sign one and send it this week.
Happy week minna... :)

I signed the pledge in mid-January.

I signed the pledge in mid-January.
What pledge? I didn't have to sign anything. I just got an email to start arrangement for dormitories, and that was it. Can someone explain me what do you mean by this pledge?Thank you.

After I was accepted by the uni, my embassy emailed me a pledge document to sign and send back to them. I can't remember exactly what it said, but basically that I won't commit crimes or do other things that would compromise the scholarship. It's also in the guidelines. If you're uni has contacted you that you're accepted, you may have to email or call your MEXT contact at your embassy and ask for the pledge and check if they've been contacted by the uni as well~

Good luck~

Hello anyone. It's great to hear everyone got the surprise blast from your country embassy. Congratulation!
Source from my university (Kyoto U only, hihi), all departure, accommodation and transfer information will be informed within late february and early March by the international student section of the university. =D
@melococ0 Well, i had sent my signed pledge 1 week ago. hehe.
Btw, is that anyone still waiting for the result?

Hello. I'm from the Philippines and I applied for a research student scholarship at TokyoTech. The program commences on October. I didn't apply through the embassy. I directly submitted my application to the uni and just last week, my professor emailed me saying that my application is tentatively admitted and my papers would be process. While I am not quite sure what "tentatively admitted" as a status would mean, I am hopeful I'd be admitted.

I browsed through this thread and I think I haven't seen anyone who went through the same procedures as I did. So I've no means of comparison to gauge where I am at.

Hi spcrome, I am from the Philippines too. Most of the people in this blog applied for 2015 MEXT scholarship through Embassy Recommendation, including myself. Does your application at TokyoTech accompany or is coupled with MEXT scholarship under University Recommendation? While I might suppose "tentatively admitted" similarly refers to "provisional acceptance," which means students (while being a research student in the university they applied to) still have to take entrance exam to be considered admitted, this process is in stark contrast to the process involved in the under University Recommendation category. Also, it is possible that your professor is just updating you on the application process where you are close to getting accepted (but not yet final), since the final results for October admission is usually announced in late August. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi, astrophysicist. Thanks for the response. I applied to TokyoTech as a university student and it is under the MEXT scholarship. If I were to pursue master's after the research program duration, that is when I'd have to take an exam. That's what it says in the guidelines.

My professor told me via email that the formal notification of acceptance and the scholarship details will be sent to me by April. This actually got me confused as to whether I'm already accepted or whatnot. I didn't bother ask. I think I'll just have to wait until April to see how my application fared. Meanwhile, I'll study Japanese. :)

How about you? How's your application?

Hi, I'm m new to this forum and this is my first post.
I am also placed in Waseda university and i have just signed my pledge today.
There are not much accommodation choices because we are research students, once our status is updated and we have become regular student we can choose from other accommodation.
If anyone found a better place to sleep in please share here as well.

thanks and gambate to those who are still waiting on their results.

Hi bcaapower, Waseda guy here! I also received email from Waseda asking me if I want to apply for dorm or no. They only offering me Hanakoganei 1 & Hanakoganei 2.

Still thinking whether to choose a dorm or apartment. anyone go for apartment?

Hi Opank, I would go for the apartment, but I cant speak Japanese (not at all) and I will be commuting to Tokorozawa campus and Waseda campus, need to be somewhere in the middle. Moreover, cant manage to bring more than 1 500 € for the begining ( 132.000yen), need also to postpone that stupid 100.000 yen initial cost, wont make it till first scholarship payment :D

There is huge con for Hanakoganei for me - they make breakfast and dinner from Mon - Sat

So, you are going to live in the dorm at first? I was thinking the same thing, because finding an apartment in Japan is very tricky for foreigner.

and yes, the breakfast and dinner that made me thinking twice to go for Hanakoganei😄

Yeah, dont have another choice :D But I am but concerned - pamphlet about WID Hanakoganei states also room C type, but if I look at another document ( Price listing) there is no price for room C ( this one includes small kitchen and bathroom in the room).
So I plan on spending there firs half year and if I am more familiar with surroundings and customs there I can try moving out.

Igr I had only one LoA too, but my university was public. Results from private universities are been announced late, as you can see through the last post here... So don't worry, and stay positive.

So, just got an email from the travel agency with my plane ticket and itinerary...for April...guess no one told them I'm starting in October :-)
Good luck to people still waiting!
To those leaving in 7-8 weeks, good luck with preparations!

Congratuation to anyone who are leaving soon to Japan for the adventure of lifetime! I'm not exactly new to this topic but I am new to this forum so please take it easy on me:nailbiting:. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone will be applying MEXT Scholarship (Reasearch) for upcoming term 2016. I reside in the USA so my local embassey's deadline is in late May/early June. I am planning to study tourism/aviation;)
