I'm sorry you still haven't heard...that's gotta be really hard on your nerves!
Have you tried contacting your embassy? I think that's a better shot than contacting the uni directly. One person (bcaapower) was placed at Waseda, but he's the only one I know about...I haven't seen anyone placed at Keio yet. In previous years, some schools were not announced until mid-February, so it's not too late yet.

Have you tried contacting your embassy? I think that's a better shot than contacting the uni directly. I also applied to Waseda but haven't heard any news from embassy or Uni. I've tried to contact my embassy, but they also don't know the progress in MEXT. If we see the list, most of those who has been notified was placed in National/Public University, same case in my country. So I think that placement in Private University will be notified later than National/Public University. Just hope MEXT can announce the result soon.

You're right, the vast majority have been national/public universities...my 1st choice was a private university but I don't think MEXT even contacted them, they just skipped straight to my 2nd choice which was a national university. Maybe for students with only private universities on the preference list, they will place you there. I hope you're lucky enough to get placed at Waseda! If not, hopefully you had a national/public university on your list too

Yes that's what I thought as well, that is why my third choice is Tokyo Metropolitan University. I just wanted to make sure I'd go to Japan, but humm I've yet to hear from them too !
I just hope that I won't get an answer after March 1st otherwise it's going to be a really nightmarish month with all the preparation to do before leaving, if I get to, for Japan !

I've noticed that too, that they seem to be trending more towards placing candidates with the national/public choices...but good news that you got your confirmation; good luck with your studies!.... All private choices for me! So I hope it is a case of if all choices are private we'll get placed in one and they're simply processing the placements by university type and haven't got around to private ones yet!

To me, i am intended to finish both master and phd in japan. Then i will consider to do postdoc in the place i think ideally for career building. Most likely there will be few year of postdocs so i gonna sharpen my skills throughout my study in japan. If I not able to continue, i will finish my master and branch out to seek job in ideal place.

Anyway, this will be another long journey, which need full of determination and perseverance. Everyone of here also wish to have a brighter future to move with. So, be focused all time around and always alert to the change in market job surrounding you. We can't predict future but we can try accomodate reality to our future. Good luck

I plan to do my PhD in Japan, and a post-doc either at a different lab in Japan (Koyanagi, Rikadai) or a lab in the US (Tuttle, U. of Wash). Then I plan to enter academia or a national lab. I know exactly what field of research I want for my career, I just need to survey the options when the time comes. It's exciting to think about...but I'm still focused on enjoying the present

I emailed my third choice uni, which is a national/public uni, to ask if they had heard anything from MEXT yet and if any placement was made at their uni. They replied that no placement had been made and that they haven't heard anything from MEXT so far... I'm starting to think that it might be a good sign... my two first choices are private uni (Waseda and Keio)... I think that if they had rejected my application, my 3rd choice would have been notified or something at this point... since they haven't heard anything, it is probably because MEXT is working something out either with Waseda or Keio... at least that's what I'm hoping for !!! Yay it might mean that I am still in the race for a MEXT scholarship ! Please please please news (great news !), come to all of us still waiting this week !!!

As for what are my plans if I get the scholarship, well I would like to do the research for two years, taking this opportunity to improve my Japanese writing and reading skills and brush up my keigo. I also want to write scholarly articles and make my resume better while involving myself in the community where I will be living. After that, I'll see if I want to do my PhD in Japan or go to Columbia Uni in NYC to do it. My ultimate goal is to work for a government agency in the USA (although I'm Canadian, I wish to move to the US and work there eventually) fighting human trafficking, especially child sex tourism.

Let's hope all the great news come soon !

Ok just got the official word from my embassy (before now I'd only been contacting university of Tokyo) about my placement and pre-departure orientation, but no word on flight details. Do you know if everyone from the UK or same country are put on the same flight?

Also I'm at uni of Tokyo's graduate school of arts and sciences, school of interdisciplinary cultural studies, researching Japanese family law and gender issues.

My embassy told me that in March they willl announce the departure date and give us the ticket. On the other hand, Is anyone already signed a pledge?. Just asking, beacuse I have to sign one and send it this week.
