MEXT Scholarship 2015 (Research Students)

@Kanguoft
Maybe this 5 month thing is the time you will be enrolled in the japanese language classes and not about the Research time itself.

Happy new year anyone. I bet next few weeks will be getting more excited. Wish you all dream come true!

I am surprised you were contacted about student housing already. Their documents told me the email would come in January.

I get the impression this is a rather large operation for U Tokyo -- they have a different international relations advisor for each department! So, it may take some time for everyone to get confirmation. I already received my 入学書 from them, but I have not received final confirmation from my local consulate.

I can resolve your worries! The international relations advisor in my department said that it's U Tokyo policy to issue research scholarships for 6 months at a time. They said I can renew it for up to 2 years depending on how long my research lasts. Now, when they see how bad a scholar I am they might want to deny that, but that's 6 months to try and prove myself..

Hi Guys,
Happy New Year everyone and congrats to those who already got their confirmation.
I received a mail from Tokyo U stating about dormitories and let them know by 20th Jan. Is a dormitory or a apartment will be much suitable?
I am thinking about taking the dormitories.
BTW, anyone here applied for Kashiwa campus?

Hi guys,
Congrats to those who have received good news.
Today, I received the confirmation by the embassy and I've been placed in Tokyo tech.
I haven't received any email about housing from the university. Should I contact them ?
Good luck with all who are still waiting.

Hi, it is good if you have this prep guide. But somehow you may try your best to do it yourself without having it as well. Try to search more useful information through this forum, some blogs, as well as referring to the experiences shared by successful scholars. Most importantly, you should put more efforts on preparing it as this can show your capability that can convince people you are ready for postgraduate study. Good Luck and wish you all the best.

Hi everyone! Happy new years and congrats to all who got their answers~
I just received my confirmation from my embassy that I was placed in the University of Tokyo and am super giddy with excitment.... also confirmed my stay with the dormitories as it seems to be the logical move for at least the first part of my stay. Hope I'll be seeing as many of you as possible in Tokyo!
so glad this long, exhausting journey is finally coming to an end.... and a new beginning, naturally.

Thanks so much for this! Indeed I ended up receiving a confirmation by the Int'l Student Office that the term of research can be extended for up to 2 years.

@BD2K15: Why the Kashiwa Campus? Is your advisor located there? According the the email I received, it is more than 2 hours away from the Komaba Campus!!!

Congratz to all those who also received their confirmation. I am too excited for words to live so close to Shibuya for one year...though I hope the next year will be a lucky one when it comes to finding cheap accomodations in Tokyo!

See you guys there in few months! ^^

I actually bought that one....and it was so useless. It's literally just advices you could get anywhere on the web about how to write a good Research Proposal. Worse, the advices were actually not that great, not very detailed. And the "samples" they give you are really strange overall. The only good thing about it was some survey results about the demographics of MEXT recipients...not so useful when it comes to write a research proposal in any case.

As @P Yk Chong mentionned, you'd be just as prepared (I'd say much better prepared) looking around the web for advices on how to write a good research proposal.

It seems that PDf file was put together quite quickly just to make some easy money from people...

Hello to all! Finally I take a moment to share a comment with all of you, this is a great post to follow. Also I want to wish you a Happy New Year!!! Congratulations to all of you that received the confirmation of the scholarship, and to those that still are waiting for the confirmation, don't despair, I'm sure that all of you will receive very good news! The last week I received from the Embassy in my country the final confirmation, so I'm very happy that in a few months I will be stepping japanese soil. My scholarship is in Kochi Prefecture in Shikoku, and now I'm waiting news about accommodation, but my Sensei told me that it's almost sure that I will stay at the Kaikan of Kochi Medical School. Well best wishes to all of you...we keep in touch!!!

Congrats to everyone who received final confirmation!!

I'm still waiting...constantly checking email Has anyone from the USA received final confirmation?

For my part, I will be staying at the Komaba International Lodge, near the Komaba Campus! I couldnt be happier about the single rooms and how convenient the location of the building is overall. I hope you'll enjoy Kashiwa!!

Yeah the facilities are indeed awesome. If you don't mind can you share which department are you going in Komaba. For my part I applied for bioscience.

That explains why you're at that other campus!! I am at the Area Studies Department, where I'll be researching Japanese colonial law in Korea in the 1910s and 1920s. So humanities~ lots of reading and headaches ahead haha

That sounds fascinating! I'm also doing a humanities scholarship (religious studies), and I'll be at the Komaba dorm since my department is at Hongo. Let's chat about Japanese history! And read a lot of books, hopefully...

are there any other people that got accepted into kyushu uni, ito campus ?

Hey everyone. I have just received an email from Nagoya University regarding the dormitories. Nagoya was my third choice and I have not received any email from the consulate or even any universitiy besides Nagoya. Even with the email received it does not say that I am accepted but only ask if I want to stay at the dorm so does this mean I am accepted at least by Nagoya but is still awaiting the official confirmation of acceptance to be sent later on? Should I send an email asking Nagoya if I am officially accepted?

Just a speculation, but most of the candidates who have received the dormitory application are almost confirmed that there'll be going to the university of stated. It shocked me that you've been placed at your third choice, as i know most of the time we'll be placed in our first choice and rarely see any of them got second and even third choice. Now i'm even more nervous... as of me, i had only received an email to confirm on my graduate school and professor from Titech and the same as you - didn't mention anything about passing the final screening.

I received the same email from Tokyo Tech (my 2nd choice)...my Embassy said it does not relate to final confirmation though.
The professor at my 3rd choice university said that MEXT has not even contacted him/them yet, so I doubt I will hear any good news very soon... :-/

I also applied to Nagoya as my second choice but have not received anything from them...
I am wondering if they are trying to send more people to national/public universities?

I think we can only assume that we've been tentatively placed into the university and still need to wait for the final decision to accept us as their official students. Besides, based on all the latest sharing from our fellow applicants, most of them who received at least an e-mail from their choices of universities has proved that we might be getting it. Let's just hope for the best and the chances that we'll be placed into the university are pretty high from now.

I've never been so glad of being rejected from my first choice I'm going to Tohoku University guys!
I guess here in Mexico we all have the final result, yay!
