heyy this is varun !! i am from india as well !! i have also applied for mext undergraduate scholorship (information engineering) this year and waiting for final decision from mext. I contacted consulate of japan in new delhi just a couple of days before and they told me that the recommendation has been forwarded and they are waiting for the final result from mext, japan. The results for final selection is likely to come in january.

i applied and got called up for an exam and interview at the embassy,i passed and got recommended by the embassy. the problem is that was in july and i am now officially tired of waiting for any news. is there anyone who was also recommended by their embassy and is still waiting,or if there is someone who already got the scholarship and is in japan,please tell me how long you had to wait,and what the process is like once your embassy recommends you.

I'm pretty sure it's normal for it to take that long because initially my embassy told me to wait until January, but I was really surprised when I got an email at the beginning of December. And from what I read from blogs of people from the previous years, it should be around late December to January.

I got accepted (thank goodness) so I'm leaving for Japan this April. Until then I'll try to learn as much kanji as possible because I am a total flunk at memorizing characters.
lolThe whole thing of having 3 alphabets is really harsh,i mean do u know how many years of preschool i had to endure to learn our ordinary Gregorian alphabet which only has 26 characters?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum but I'd like to apply for mext scholarship next year. Is there anyone who studies Japanese at university? I read all this thread and it seems most of you are applying for science related field of studies, so you can take the test in English. I'd like to apply for the research student one, in the field of Japanese History, what kind of test will I have to take? I was pretty sure I "just" had to take a test in Japanese, also looking at this page

Also, I'm currently enrolled in my last year of MA studies, I think I should finish by February 2015, if I circle the phd or ma option will I have to take a different kind of test? If you circle that option and then don't pass the admission exam, would the scholarship be over or continue as a research student until the end of the period? [as far as I have understood from guidelines you start as a research student in every case because you have to take the admission exam to enroll in a phd or ma course, right?]

I will probably have a master degree by that time (and I already have my BA in any case), so I don't think I'm elegible for undergraduate scholarship (also, I'm interested in research mainly, or a phd, as I'm going to get enrolled in a phd course here). To say the truth, I don't think I have many chances next year, but I'd like to try and see how it is structured etc.

you misunderstand me,i was referring to research students when i said you had to take english and japanese exams,same as undergrads,also,if u fail your entrance exams,your scholarship is revoked,,same as undergrad,as for your chances,well,they are better than those of anyone applying for undergrad,that much you can be sure....
mmh..sorry for so many questions, but I'm new to the thing and a little confused. On the guidelines it says that as a research student I can do research (obviously) and join any lesson (but I can't get points toward any degree because it is a non-regular course). If it is true, and I choose from the beginning the research option, why would the scholarship be revoked if I don't pass the admission exam for the master/phd (which is an "extra" for which I would have to ask for the scholarship to get extended)? Isn't there any kind of reference to check the kind of exams in relation to field of studies? I've never heard about maths exams for graduate (apart from scientific related studies of course) and that worries me even more than the Japanese test >.<
in my country,when i took the undergrad test,the research guys where in the same room,albeit taking different exams from ours,so talk to your consulate about what exams you write...in any case,,the maths aint that hard,just basic grown up stuff,if u dont want your scholarship extended then there is no need for varsity entrance exams

well, of course I'd like to, but I'm not too confident to pass because I heard admission test is quite hard (although I've always studied hard and don't mind giving my best and even more to get in). As scholarship is from 18 to 24 months depending on the period of arrival, I was just wondering if an eventual failed attempt would result in the scholarship revoked, in that case is not convenient to do it, or at least it is better to do it as later as possible (don't know if you can just make one attempt, I read something about a couple of chances for either master or phd but I don't remember where). Anyway, thank you for your kind answers, I'll try to contact the embassy or some students from my uni that had already tried the exam

will still reply you,depending on your consulate,u dont really need to know any japanese,i didnt know any japanese when i took my exam,and i still got recommended,so......good luck...thats the whole point of going for preparatory school for 1 year,so that you can learn the language
