Yes, finally... :) I've checked the posts from last year in the Facebook group and it seemed most of those who posted there got their answers between the 2nd and 8th of December. I really hope we can expect early answers as well... I guess I'll just sleep all day from now on to make time pass faster :D

Only 3 for undergraduate. I was told that it is technically possible that all 3 of us will get the scholarship, but seeing the statistics from previous years, I don't think there's a good chance for that. :\

The number of people who got the undergraduate scholarship in Hungary, according to the website of the Japanese Embassy in Hungary:
2005-2009: 1/year
2010: 2
2011: 0
2012: 1
Of course, that's only for Hungary.
Not exactly the brightest statistic, but as it seems the number of scholarships for foreign students will increase next year, perhaps our chances aren't as bad.

I see... Is it because of that policy they have of not taking many candidates from developed countries, maybe?
Anyway, I wish you the best of lucks!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to know how one can get the information of the MEXT second screening, via embassy or there is any other way? It is because in India our embassy informed me that we will get the final information around end Jan-early Feb, and from the forum I understand that most of you is expecting to get the info about the second screening in around Dec.

Best of luck to all of us!!!!

The date you get a final answer seems to depend on the scholarship you applied for. As I understand it, undergraduate applicants should get the final decision from MEXT in December and although research applicants could also get an answer from MEXT this month, they still need the OK from one of the universities they got LoAs from and that probably happens only around January.
I'd say that the embassy is your only source of information, although some research students seemed to recieve e-mails from their professors last year, saying that MEXT asked them (the prof.) if they would agree to accept the applicant, but I'm kind of confused about the exact dates right now and at the moment I am too lazy to search for them again. If you're in the Facebook group just go back to posts a year ago and see the reactions for yourself. (Between December-February). If you're not, just search for Monbukagakusho on FB and you shall see the group.
Still, if you see that a lot of people already got some kind of response, it might be worth a try to call your embassy and ask if they have any kind of information.

Good luck to us indeed.

I called embassy yesterday (it was the third time actually) and they said results will be announced at the end of December in Turkey for undergraduate scholarship applicants.

Hi Everyone,

I am from Canada and I just registered because when I was applying for MEXT, I found there is good information on this website. Thank you all!

I received notice from my research supervisor that I have been selected for MEXT and now we are figuring out accommodation details. I hope you will all find out shortly! Cheers.

Thanks, cobiewankenobi. My supervisor did say the official acceptance will still be in February, however. So I am thinking this would be some sort of official certificate/VISA application period.

So if anyone else gets an early idea of their acceptance, please share! I'm definitely curious about when they actually tell everyone! Good luck.

If you don't mind, which university is your supervisor from? Thank you :)

Oh my, the results are starting to come out. I'm starting to get nervous and excited too!

Hello everyone : ) Im a Russian girl who will give this exam a try! I really want to study in Japan!
The only problem I have is that I don't know how to prepare for the math exam...how did everyone else prepare?
Advice will be greatly appreciated!

Hey all. This is my first post on jref. Applied for the embassy recommendation as a research student and got it. Got my LOA and now I'm just waiting for some news from MEXT. Going a little crazy with this waiting, not sure when I'll hear. Any other research candidates in the same boat?

Hello Anya :) (By the way in my language your name means "mother" :) )
Which program will you apply for?

In my case, I downloaded some of the previous tests, and tried solving them. If I had trouble with something, I asked my math teacher or someone who learnt advanced math. Practice makes perfect, after all. (Though in my case it was nowhere near perfect :) ) Do so without using a calculator, as you're not allowed to use one during the test either. You're not allowed to use anything except your pen, actually, so you should also try to memorize as many formulas and theorems as possible. They seem to be fond of triangles, so checking out stuff about them might be a good idea.
There's usually a differentiation problem as well, so you should practice that, or if you have not learnt it, then ask someone to explain it, and/or find a good source to learn it from. (I spent about 2-3 days before the exam learning that and solving easier problems. I could kind of solve the differentiation exercise in the test, but since then I've completely forgotten it :))
I don't know if this sound silly, but I also tried "training" myself to be better at not using a calculator. When I was taking a walk or a shower, I usually chose two random numbers between 10 and 100 and multiplied them in my head. I don't know if that actually helped, though, just seemed like a good way to "use my mind" when I didn't have to think about anything. :)
All in all, I think practice is the best way. Especially because if you solve the previous tests you get a general idea of what kind you can expect. If you can't solve an exercise, just ask someone you know, or you could even ask here; I'm sure someone will be able to help you. (I probably remember some of the solutions as well.)

Anyways, good luck and welcome :)

Sent you a message, momotakeshi.

A colleague got an information from the embassy and the staff said that results will be in January 2013. The waiting game's not yet over . :) Again, all the best to the nominees. :)

Seems like our waiting is coming to an end. Somebody from the facebook group posted this : '' They gave me the news today and i got selected!! Yes!! I am just so happy.. :) '' He is from Nepal and he is an undergrad.

OMg im so happy, my embassy confirmed just a few minutes ago, I was selected! I passed the second screening! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
This comes to show that good things happen to those who wait, I applied three times and finally I decided this would my my last attempt and I wasn't even waiting for anything but bless God, I passed everything, Don't give up if they didn't select you the first time, just keep trying and trying, every time you try there's something you can do to improve your application. good luck every one! just wait for good results! :-)📣📣📣
