After the results, I think you have to contact the University you chose. But don't worry now, I'm sure the Embassy will tell you what to do after the results. But, with my friend happened like that: he got the golden call from Embassy, then contacted the University he chose and got accepted there.

yeah thats what I am saying, I already got the ok from the embassy and they gave me a month to find a professor, a university, a research lab in order to get the acceptance letter hence the scholarship officially. its just that my japanese is really bad so contacting anyone from Japan is a struggle .... i am a bit confused on how to approach them.. but oh well. I will try ...! and in my case it was a golden email

Do i have a chance ?

Hello everyone , i want to ask about your opinions ... i have applied for the 2013 MEXT undergraduate scholarship , i am from Jordan , and just today we had our written examinations .. to be honest , i didnt do very well .. i want to give you an idea of how i did in each exam and would ask you to honestly tell me if i have a chance or not , i would appreciate if you guys were honest and tell me the truth
Okay so the English exam , it was the easiest and i can confidently say that i will almost ace it , and get a full mark , if not , maybe 1 or 2 circles would be wrong , but i doubt it because i double checked it and i think i did perfect .
Mathematics B , there were 3 questions , the first was easy quick answers that we filled in the blanks , i solved them all except for one blank . the second question was a 3 parts question (3 blanks we need to fill) about an integral function and we needed to find values of a constant involved (sorry i cant remember full details) , i solved it all and i wrote my answers , but i am a little skeptical about them , lets say its a 70% chance they are correct . the third question also had 3 parts (3 blanks we need to fill) .. i could only solve one of those 3 (with a 70% chance that it is correct) and didnt have time to solve the other 2 ... thats it for math
as for Chemistry and Physics , i was honestly shocked about the questions ! i am not good at Chem at all .. and i can honestly say that i was only able to solve 3 or 4 blanks ! the rest of the exam i relied on common sense and sometimes on my luck to choose in multiple answers ... as for physics , i think it was a 5 questions exam , i was able to successfully solve 2 .. the other 3 i couldnt solve them at all but i also used some common sense and chance ..
The japanese exam was of 3 (beginners , Intermediate , Advanced ) parts , i have some basic knowledge of the japanese language so i tried to solve some of the questions in the 1st section , but left the other 2 sections empty . ( I think japanese exam does not even count in the process of selection so just never mind it )
so Please guys tell me what you think my chances are ... should i expect anything ?? and thanks for your honesty

Charis, I haven't got a call or email yet from the Embassy...but, I sent an email to the University I chose (in English, because I don't speak Japanese) and they replied me quickly. Since then, I've been talking with some Professors from this University and they've been very nice to me. So, I think you have to try... send an email saying that you got this scholarship and talk about your project and what you'd like to study, and I'm sure they'll put you in contact with some Professor.

I'm sorry but I have no idea about this exams so I won't be helpful, because I've applied for the Master programm...I don't know how is the process to the undergraduate program but, as you said, Japanese is not a requirement... if you know is better, I think.. but I know people that don't know anything about Japanese language and got it. I don't know anything as well and I was pre-selected... but I think 70% correct is a great mark to math! good luck

Hi! This wait is terrible! But I think they can't take a long time to publish the results. They say that the Universities in Japan don't accept applications after August, so they must published the results as soon as possible. Last year, my husband applied for this scholarship and he received a letter saying that he didn't get the grant in the end of July or the begining of August, I'm not sure - and in the letter they said there were lots of good projects so they took a longer time to chose the "winners". I don't know if the wait depends on the number of application. Here in Portugal, 14 projects had been "pre-selected" to the interview and English test. And I think they award 3 or 4 scholarship to portuguese students.

However, I've been seen lots of people in this Forum that have alreday known the results... So, indeed, each Embassy has different calendar to this grant.

Let's wait and see!

Here in Moscow they selected 29 people for the interview (from around 60) and from 29 they will chose around 11 (I hope not less).

I already have a professor who will supervise me (and mentioned it at the interview). Actually even without good knowledge of Japanese it's not very difficult to get in touch with the university. I contacted student's centers in universities and they replied me and were very nice! After I sent them my documents, they appointed a professor.

Btw, Eloisa, you're from Lison? I'm coming there for my holidays in a week!

I just got resuts and unfortunatly I didn't pass the screening. I was better prepared this time and I found a professor, so I dunno what was wrong. Maybe they didn't like that I spoke in English, no in Japanese... I really have no idea.... I don't know if I try 3rd time next year.

Hi there

I'm new here and I'm from Thailand. I have applied for special training college student, I will be taking the exam on this upcoming sunday.

I have the same question with the post above. I'm curious about the exam.

Normally, the maths exam for special training college student is far easier than those of undergrad.

However, according to the mext exam website, maths for special training college student in 2010 resembled the undergrad's which was extremely hard to me.

So, could anyone who also applied for special training college please share your recent experience ? I would strongly appreciate your kindness.

There are some points that I want to share with my friends, here in this forum about the examinations and the interviews and how to get prepared. First of all, I should say that I had applied for the doctoral program.....

For the English exam, I think it is better to carefully examine the sample papers that is provided in the websites. It is also very helpful if one prepares for this examination like a standard TOEFL examination. I took preparation for TOEFL and it helped a lot.

Regarding the interviews, it is better to take preparation about some general questions like "Why do you want to study in Japan", "How your work will be beneficial to your country as well as to Japan" etc.

Moreover, one should always take the research proposal very seriously. One should give his best while writing the proposal and the proposal should have a clear idea of what you want to do. They will see whether you have a definite plan or not regarding your work.

This is my personal experience regarding the examination. If these points help the future applicants or the current applicants for the fellowship, I will be very happy.

Yes, in India, our interviews were in English. I am not sure about the interview process of other countries.....

What University would you like to apply for?

I sent an e-mail to a contact that I've found in the University's website andI thought it would be sent to the application department. However, I was lucky because the contact was of a Professor that is of my field of study. Since then, I've been talking with him and he put me in contact with other professors that have shown interest in my subject.

You just have to try and send an e-mail. Try to look for the contact of the department of your field of interest. But, perhaps, the division of international affairs is a good start.

I'm still waiting for the Embassy. I think they will say something until the end of this month.
I hate this wait... but is a good experience to learn how to be patient
