Hi Samik,
Was the English test difficult? My interview will be this Wednesday and English test in the day after it.
I am worried about those question that we have to chose a wrong sentence. It's pretty hard!
What did they ask in your interview!

Thank you. The English test was not that difficult. This year they have those questions where you have to choose the wrong sentence in the passage, at least in our exams they had those questions.......Best of Luck for your exams and interview.
Since I am applying for doctoral fellowships, they asked questions about the research proposal and also questions from undergraduate and postgraduate level. My field of study is Physics. So, they asked physics questions. I hope you have a good examination and good interview.

hi guys, i present myself i'm from argentina ,i have register here, because i'm appling this year to the undergraduate scholarship 2013, for what i have read from you, it seems very hard to get the scholaship, what i want to know if you can help me with something , i'm goint to sit for the exam in the 23rd of july, and i'm a bit scarred with maths , im taking the math's b exam, anybody knows which topics enter in the exam ? thanks.
telete: I don't know about math exam because I didn't have that in the research student exam.. But if I'm not mistaken there are also some last year's exam on the monbusho site..?
Anyway, I passed the written exam and going to have the interview on 19th July. It's still a long way though, there are still around 100 people who are going to have it and they will only take around 20-30 people for the scholarship. I'm getting nervous but hopefully I can make it. I'm opening the old mext thread to find some tips about the interview, but if you also have some tips it would be really appreciated..!

men, i'm sorry that i can not help because i'm having the interview the same day as the exam! i think that this case is only in argentina haha, for what i have read ,the normal stuff : they want to listen that you are very sure about taking the scolarship seriosuly till the end, not someone that probably will dropp off in the middle. Gambatte kudasai!

My interview was on Wednesday. Well, prepare yourself to answer questions like "Why Japan" "Why are you interested in Japan" "Talk about your academic career" "Talk about your project" "What do you want to do after the scholarship" (here is important to say that you wanna come back to your country and pass your experience on, become a teacher etc etc never say that you want to stay in Japan, because the idea of this scholarship is the cultural exchange, so it's good if you wanna come to your home to share what you've learnt) "Why is your project important" etc... You must demonstrate interest in learning Japanese as well. It's good if you have information about the University you've chosen, and it will better if you have a contact or a Professor from the University.
But I think the interview depends on the country were you're from. Here in Portugal, it's started in English and then we talked in portuguese...
So, best of lucks everbody.... I hope see you in Japan!!!

it's incredible , how we are all from different countries, cultures, and we all have in common our dream to study and to live in Japan, good luck to everyone, and to the ones that didnt qualify , keep tryng, the other day i listen a story about some man in the salvador , that tried 6 times, and in the sixth one , he won the scholarship for the post graduates. i hope to see you all in japan too.

hm.. about saying that you are not supposed to tell them than you would like to stay in Japan after studies... I had the same perspective and then I asked my Japanese teacher and she told me that it would be considered rude saying that you will be receiving all these money and then going away back to your country.. hm.. so I thought you cant really know how they see it..cultural exchange makes sense but you can do that within Japan aswell. of course they pay you a ticket back to your country after the studies are finished but thats just because they are supposed to.. they cant make you stay in Japan. but after hearing that from a Japanese person .. calling my answer rude I felt that she was both right and wrong arghh... so at the interview i told them that I desire to gain as much as I can from Japan,(language, culture, notions) .. learn the language as best as I can, and as soon as there are no work possibilities anymore, I would consider going back to either my countries, or the uk... and still promote Japan as a country and help in language barriers between japan, uk, and my other two countries.
so yeah.. I thought I'd share this

Hi, I understang what you're saying about being rude... but that depends on the way you say that.... but the fact is, who knows?
If I go to Japan and then I have a opportunity to stay there, I would like to! A friend of mine that got this scholarship gave me this tip...how many countries are from charis22?

anyway do you know how long it takes to receive a final answer for the whole proccess? My interview and exams were all on the same date and it's been ten days now.... has anyone received the scholarship already?

i think that mext tell you the ,final deccision , if you received the scholaship around december or january.

The lady from the Embassy said me that the results will be available in one or two weeks time.

The same is in Moscow (Russia), but in fact 3,5 weeks have passed and we are still waiting for results.... The lady from the Embassy told me that they are themselves waiting.
It's the second time I applied for the scholarship
Last year we waited for around a month.

Hi! This wait is terrible! But I think they can't take a long time to publish the results. They say that the Universities in Japan don't accept applications after August, so they must published the results as soon as possible. Last year, my husband applied for this scholarship and he received a letter saying that he didn't get the grant in the end of July or the begining of August, I'm not sure - and in the letter they said there were lots of good projects so they took a longer time to chose the "winners". I don't know if the wait depends on the number of application. Here in Portugal, 14 projects had been "pre-selected" to the interview and English test. And I think they award 3 or 4 scholarship to portuguese students.
However, I've been seen lots of people in this Forum that have alreday known the results... So, indeed, each Embassy has different calendar to this grant.
Let's wait and see!

I THINK it is allowed as long as you comply with the submission of LOAs to the embassy and the documents required by the university (either through e-mail or snail mail) before the deadline. You should ask the embassy in your country to be sure.

hm... so I am now at the process of needing to get the acceptance letter from a professor within a month... does anyone know how?
I mean.. do you contact the university? or the professor himself? and when ...do you send your applications at the university? after you speak with the professor? before?

After the results, I think you have to contact the University you chose. But don't worry now, I'm sure the Embassy will tell you what to do after the results. But, with my friend happened like that: he got the golden call from Embassy, then contacted the University he chose and got accepted there.
