MEXT Scholarship 2012

Hey all ,
My situation is really different here .
So I'm from Iraq and and I applied for the MEXT - undergraduate 2012 , and did the exams at the embassy in May.
Till here it sounds normal , but I didn't receive any LOA till this date , I contacted the embassy many times and they keep telling me to wait.
I was the only person who applied for MEXT - undergraduate in Iraq xD .
I really don't know whats going on , or what will happen , all I can guess is that Iraq has different MEXT procedure .
Have anyone gone through the same thing ? , or at least knows about this procedure ^^?
Thanks in advance and good luck to all those waiting for the answer :D

I wonder why as someone applying for undergrad, you had to get yourself an LOA.

I thought only those in the research category had to do that. Hmm....

Hello all! The showdown time is coming nearer :D Any updates from your research supervisor or campus?

i'm sure the thread will come to life in the next couple of weeks. I wanted to browse the old thread to see what dates the notices came out, BUT too lazy 😌

I have received an email from the university "to confirm about MEXT scholar acceptance". It also contain plans to accept me as Japanese language student next April. I have contacted my prof to confirm on the news and she said that the results is "OK".

There is still no news from the embassy though, so I should take the email with a grain of salt (not official yet). From previous year threads, it seems that around this date some prof/univ should have sent email to confirm some news to us.

wow, your uni is fast! can i ask which uni? 😊 i think that's already congratulations to you!!

Nagoya University. I think the congratulation is too fast by the way, the embassy has not say a word about it :?
From last year threads, it seems that it was also Nagoya Univ that contacted the RS candidates at the beginning of Dec. History does repeat itself :-) I hope for the best for you too!

I passed! I got my notification from the New York Consulate in the United States! I'll find out which University in February! I never expected to hear back this soon!!!

Congrats, Kurukuru, or should I say Ikuiku :)))
Do they know about Uni but wouldn't tell you or don't have any letter of acceptance already?
But either way, its so cool to know that you go for sure :)

Congratz kurukuru :D for the good news!
In the facebook page, another special training candidate at Sweden has been called by the embassy. By the way kurukuru, what program are you applying at?

Congrats FryLai! A few of my friends have gotten emails from their universities/professors already too! I'm still anxiously waiting for mine, no news at all :(

Results for special training in Sweden and undergraduate in El Salvador has been announced :p Since today is weekend, I think we should hear from our embassies next week! The announcement for Indonesia and Malaysia should not be too far apart from each other.
ffxyunajo, don't lose hope. I have not heard any news from the embassy as well so I am just as anxious as you 😌

Congratulations guys!!! So it seems that Nagoya is fast, and then there are countries that are fast!

Based on the thread I think my country announces around the 16th, so I got a LOOOONG WAIT coming for me.

But Congratulations!!!! I am so excited!!! :) Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

BTW for everyone taking JLPT tomorrow, let's ganbarou!!! :))

Hello again! Ok I found myself going over last year's thread, and compile the dates of when the unis/embassies contacted the applicants!!! hey guys! I just got the confirmation from my embassy today (Guatemala, Central America).

They told me that I have been confirmed as a scholarship holder by MEXT but when (April-October) and where (in my case Tohoku or Tokyo) has not been defined yet.

I was told that the complete information would be likely to be given in January :(

By the way, nice to meet you! Anyone going to Tokyo or Tohoku also? Wheres the facebook group for 2012 Scholarship (I entered one but there where only 4 persons)

Great post mitch2526! It summarized what happened last year. Generally, this year's decision will be faster compared to last year since the number of people passing the primary screening has been significantly reduced.

@leaguilar: Congratz for your acceptance. For the facebook group, follow this link: Log In | Facebook

wow, mitch2526, thanks for the summary!!!

congrats to everyone that already got news!!!

For the rest of us next week is gonna be so interesting. At least this thread came to life :) its always easier to wait in a good company :)
We should add when posting about results, what program (graduate/undergraduate/special training) are we at

Congratulations to all of you who already have good news from the embassies

I have some bad news for me, though :( Just yesterday I've got a call from my local embassy and was told that I am a substitute candidate now, so if somebody won't be able to do to Japan next year I will go and so on. I've asked about the chances of this actually happening and the embassy person didn't encourage me much. And worse, I still have to wait till February for the final answer.

So now I'm feeling really sad because of this, and cannot even concentrate on the tomorrow JLPT no more ((( This is my 3rd application as a Research Student and the first when I've finally managed to get through the documents screening, written exam, oral screening in the embassy, got 3 LOA from the universities and professors already agreed to accept me as doctoral students. I can't possibly imagine what those MEXT people didn't like in my application (

Somebody have some encouraging words (actually, any info will be useful) about this "substitute candidate" issue? Do I have to consider this as being rejected?

Thanks 🙏

shigasumi, I am sorry to hear your news. So you are downgraded from main candidate to alternate candidate? If I may know, from what universities do you obtain the LOAs?

I have heard there is a case in my country (Indonesia) where the alternate candidate went to Japan in October after a main candidate resign. However, IMO you should start preparing for the worst since the possibility of that happening is quite slim. Stay strong and go on with your life :-)
Have you heard from your professors yet? I think you should contact them to know if there is some info from MEXT regarding your problem.

It is a pity to hear that your status changed. I was a substitute candidate last year, and at that time I was told they poll all the vacancies left by the persons that declined the scholarship and then assign those to the substitute candidates depending on the performance of previous candidates from every country. That said, it all depends on how MEXT looks/rates the previous grantees from your country.

The good thing about being a substitute candidate is that your odds for the next opportunity grow.

In the end I truly believe that everything comes at the right time, if you are meant to go to Japan in 2012 you will surely go, if you are meant to go next year, this might be a good opportunity to identify any deficiencies (if any) and become a better candidate for next year (what I tried to do :) )

Anyway move on, be happy, and don't let things that are outside your control disturb you ;)

FryLai, leaguilar Thank you very much for your answers!

Yep, I was a regular candidate up to yesterday (
I've received LOAs from Saitama University (my first choice), Kobe University and Waseda University. I understand, that I should contact my professors now, but I absolutely got no idea what to write in this case ( Besides... I know it's rather stupid, but I feel kind of embarrassed now that I've got this tentative status

I don't really know if I have enough strength left to go this way again for the fourth time.

Anyway, thanks again for your answers and I wish you better luck in you applications!

shigasumi,
first I am sorry to hear your news. I went through that last year. this is my third time applying. First time - didn't pass written exam. next year - passed written test and interview, but stuck in December with mext decision (became substitute, but they told me right away not to hope for anything, as my chances are almost zero). this year I've been told that same thing wouldn't happen to me twice. I guess we are just about to see that in next few weeks.
I am full of hope but i learned not to expect anything. This is your big chance to become stronger, and when I say that it is not just a phrase to comfort you. Life is tough and we need to adjust our expectations to it. That doesn't mean to wish less and not to try harder, but just the opposite. what i did last year after being rejected was 16 hours of learning Japanese for one whole month (I was really pissed). then I improved my research proposal and my English language abilities, a little and applied again. I gave to much effort for this goal and I am not gonna quit just like that. Not even if I get rejected this year!
Apply next year again, but improve every aspect of your application a little, and also find something else to occupy your time while waiting (some job if possible :)). Half of the job is already done if you have 3 professors willing to accept you. Just don't give up so easily if you already went this far. Take care

SHIGASUMI
I am really sorry to hear that, but please do not lose hope even if it is bad news at the end.
I ve applied 5 times already haha first 2 i didnt even pass the english test, 3 time i made it to the interview but ended as tentative candidate. 4 time i made it but crisis issue left me out .... and finally this 5th time made it again and even in a better position compared to last year.
I dont know whether my little 5-year-story will cheer you up, but hidden message here is to do not lose hope!
How many candidates were selected in your country? last year we were 9 but 2 of us were left out cause crisis thing and this year we are just 6.

Hi All,,, I am Mohamed from Sudan... I am applying to Research student Category.... also waiting to hear from the Embassy!!!
