MEXT Scholarship 2012

@kanun, thanx a lot for pointing to the right direction which i read before but was never clear to me. Now i also have the same query as Charcoal, should i send the docs to the Uni already have agreed or wait a bit if any further replies arrive.

Hello everyone. I still have not gotten any LOA so far after approaching several universities and professors. Would like to highlight that some universities require N1 JLPT even for a research student. This information is usually not available on their website or admission details. Would suggest to personally call up the graduate school to ask about this before sending in any documents as you have limited copy of the original Certificate of Passing Primary Screening.

Hi there guys ;)

I'm an applicant from Spain. I got my first LoA right the way but it's taking some time for my other desired university to send the second one... Last time I heard from the proffesor he was filling the form... I just hope everything is ok :S

It's kind of weird how people from some many different countries are going through the same procedure ;) I wish I can meet some of you next year.

Let's all do our best and support each other !!!

皆さん頑張ってください!

Dear Friends, please note that my nick name is "Kouun9" and not "Kanun" and "Kyuun" etc etc, I would be grateful if you don't change it. :)

thought it merely a forum id, otherwise would be more careful while spelling. anyway, sorry for disturbing your mind.

Just like the professor, the university also preferred the scanned version of documents. quite smart, aren't they? So i din had to post anything even though it was written on form.

Thanks for the understanding neuro11. I might also have not bothered about the spelling, but it has some meaning in Japanese language, and a background reason too, that's why. :)

Professors respond within few hours to few weeks. Reasons for dealy which can be thought of -->

different working styles, do not check emails frequently, enjoying their holidays, have lazy secretarial staff, not interested in mails from unknown persons, mail got filtered as spam, mail too long and winding.

please add other reasons which you think might be the reasons for delay in response.

with only 4 days to go to submit my application form with names of 3 preferred professors, i was wondering what should i write in other 2 boxes as only one professor has agreed to take me and most of others even din reply. Should i leave other 2 choices blank???

If you have some hope/chance to get one or two more LOA's, you can specify that in the form, as it has option to specify whether you have acquired or are acquiring or have not acquired the loa. You can fill accordingly.

got mail from embassy today, the last date to submit the form has been fixed, no excuse will be accepted. Thankfully I have got loa's from my preferred universities, waiting them to be delivered.

Instead of providing the LOA on usual paper (that i sent through mail) they sent me one in their own pad signed by the dean of the school and a letter asking embassy to accept it as it is more authorized than LOA signed by individual professor. interesting!!! has any other received this kind of thing??

No I haven't heard about this kind of LOA. If you have doubt you can ask the Japanese embassy.

4 months of waiting
I really hope they won't cut this year's budget
In Indonesia, there are only 22 person who passed the primary screening for research program (last year, there are around 70, and the year before that, 45 people are in)
However, there are too many people who passed the 1st screening for another program such as undergrad, college of technology, and specialized training college (each around 20s)

I wish you all the best for everyone here
Waiting waiting waiting till bored

Hi guys,
I hope everyone is doing well and also is getting a lot of LOA!!!
I have a question to u guys and I hope I will get a reply so soon.
" A grantee as research student cannot have the term of the scholarship extended but may proceed to higher education or continue his study as a privatly financed student". What does that mean??? Explain!!!
Some people said that after we arrive to Japan we will be enrolled as research student and then we will sit for the entrance exam SO what we can do about the life and studies expenses when being a research student????
REPLY PLEASE!!!
HAVE A NICE DAY.

I'm not sure about it but many people could extend it so that will cover your tuition and living expense while you're doing master or phd degree
Some people said that if you can't get into their master or phd course for a set period of time (approximately 1.5 years), you'll have to go back to your country
So probably, what they meant in this sentence is that you won't be able to extend the period of your research student status

hi everyone,
One of the three professors who accepted me has just refused me due to sudden retirement. :( It seems the other two LOAs are certain, but I'm afraid that I won't find a third prof in time before I have to submit the documents. What if I don't use up all three of my passing certificates? Do you think that lessens my chances? :/

also, I seriously don't know if I have more chances with the big national universities or the small, although private ones. :(

don know whether it means lesser chances but certainly you are not alone here as i have received LOA from just one professor and submitted with that.

One of my seniors a few years back was able to secure only 1 LOA. and she went. so it does not mean that lesser number of loa's means lesser chances. Keep searching for other prospective professors. good luck

hello guys,
Hope u all are doing well!!! GAMBATTE!!!
Can anyone tell me what is the difference between National University and the Private University???
Also, can anyone tell info about Nagano City???
Thank you in advance!!!

National universities are of government and Private universities are not of government they may be receiving some funding from government.

In addition to that the registration fees of private ones are maybe double than or more than double of the governmental ones ..

The whole fee structure including tuition fee etc of Private universities is much more than National universities, this time in our embassy has advised us to prefer government universities over private ones.

wow!!!i have received LOA by normal mail(registered) in only 5 days. its quite fast i have to say.

hi again guys,
@ kouun9 and ShenooThank u very much for ur replies.
@neuro11, congratssssssss!!!
@kouun9, if you don't mind can you explain more why did the embassy advise u to select government univ over private???
Also, i heard that if someone gets more than 1 LOA the embassy asks the applicant about his first preference and just send That one LOA to japan??? Is it true???
Sorry for the disturbance and thank you in advance.

@Joujou85 I don't know the reason why they advised us so, but this is a fact that National universities will be given preference over Private ones. last year too one of my friends 1st preference was Waseda univ (a private university), and 2nd and 3rd preferences were national universities. as he had LOA from waseda he was sure that he will be going to Waseda. But finally he as placed in his 2nd preference national university. It may be that Japanese economy is not in a good shape and they are cutting extra expenditure every where including the scholarship amount has been reduced over the years.
