MEXT Postgraduate: Which programme are you enrolling?

To while away the wait for the results of the scholarship, I propose a poll

As for me, I am trying to get a scholarship as a Research Student. As for now, I am unable to say if I would like to extend the scholarship in the future for PhD programme. Btw, will it be possible to extend it if in application form I selected that I wanted to enroll only in RS programme?
