MEXT Japanese Studies 2017/2018

My embassy told me my placement. And they also told me I should arrive sometime in late September, but university will tell me certain departure time soon.

I haven't gotten my departure dates yet, but I will receive the acceptance letter from my University in the start of august. According to my embassy, I have an orientation day at the embassy in mid august, and I assume all the departure dates, visa, tickets etc will be taken care of on that day. For instance my University starts their program on the 21st of September according to their website, so I am expecting to be heading to Japan a week before that? Maybe you can check your university's website and see when their fall semester starts? Good luck everyone with waiting!

@georgegeorge Waseda is my first choice but i didn't have any news about it. Have you accepted by Waseda ? If yes, it's the embassy or the university who contacted you ?

At first it was university, they asked me to choose a dormitory (super expensive, operated by Kyoritsu Maintenance). I applied and then I had a call from the embassy who said I as confirmed and had to sign and send the "Pledge", where I should say I agree with the program terms.

Hey guys, I've just received news from my embassy and was told I got accepted by my 1st choice, Osaka Daigaku ! Such a relief ! I have to go to the embassy tomorrow in order to ask for my visa. Concerning the departure, they wrote that a travel agency will contact us by early september to send us our boarding pass. There's almost no mention of the university, but I guess they'll contact me whithin the next weeks to give me further information concerning the dormitories and so on ! We will also attend an orientation meeting at the embassy next month, let's see if they will provide interesting information to us which could be useful for everyone.

Hope you guys are gonna get some good news soon ! For those who will be going to Osaka, see you in october !

Hey ! It's the same thing for me, i've received news from my ambassy and i got accepted by my second choice Sôka. For the rest, it's exactly the same thing as Oaneyl.

Congrats Oaneyl and Shadows!!!
@Oaneyl It's good that you got your first choice! xD

there are still no news from the embassy but they told me from Doushisa that I should be arriving in Japan either on the 6th or the 7th of September.

Congratulations Oaneyl that's really good to hear! A lot of people passing on this forum makes me happy! I hope we can all go to Japan soon and have a wonderful year! Good luck to everyone still waiting

Thank you everyone ! I'm really happy to see that much people being accepted this year. Moreover, it seems there are more people getting their choices than the past years, if we compare to the other threads. That's cool ! I'm glad we participated that much to this thread, I hope it can be useful for the next applicants.

Congrats Oaneyl and Shadows!

Must be a huge relief to finally hear the news that you folks got the scholarship!

I'm heading to Kobe University! Got an email from them today. Just so you all know :) it was my second choice.

Also, if any new people are seeing this, if you got the scholarship join the MEXT Japanese Studies Scholarship 2017-2018 Facebook group!

Congrats Daryk! Hearing that someone from the US got their results is getting my hopes up. I've been refreshing my email like crazy lol

You say you were contacted by the university, right? Not the embassy?

Congratulations Daryk Childs!! :)

I haven't heard anything from the embassy yet. :/
@alchie Were you contacted directly by the embassy or did they first inform your university? And was it through an e-mail?

Congrats Daryk !

@HikariKaitou If I remember well, you applied to Osaka Daigaku as your first choice, isn't it? If so, it seems that all the people accepted there got the result by their embassy and not by the uni itself. It seems to depend on each uni, but in Osaka's case, I wonder if it's not the embassy which send the result. If so, I guess you should hear some news from your consulate soon.

Yeah, Osaka was my first choice. I know I just have to be patient but you know how it is.

I was first contacted by Doushisha in late June. Don't worry, I think that they should be contacting you soon enough. If youy received your acceptance letter from Doushisha I don't think you have much to worry about.
I was contacted directly by the embassy since I applied through the embassy recommendation. I received a phone call.
Is it the first time you go to Japan?
