MEXT Japanese Studies 2017/2018

@Oaneyl yeah but I think your embassy / others are rather informal because they send e-mails and keep contact with their students, meanwhile other embassy's are rather strict and will only give the final result by letter and nothing else. I wish my embassy would be so transparent but I guess it depends on the country/institution. However, I do believe "official" embassy results are end of July, according to last year (globally).

Yes sure and I guess maybe some embassies prefer telling the final results so they are sure instead of giving false hope / sending a lot of stuff for maybe nothing.

@Jpstudies Thank you for the info. A rough estimate on an official notice does help make the wait more bearable :D

@Oaneyl Apologies. I realized that my last question was a bit ambiguous, and that we are likely thinking about two different things. If I'm not mistaken, you received notice from your embassy stating that you passed your second screening, yet no official placement was given. At this point, you nearly have a 100% chance of being accepted into a Japanese university because they are merely looking for somewhere to place you.

For my embassy, there has never been a case where someone passed the second screening and was not accepted into a Japanese university. I don't want to get your hopes up and say it's guaranteed that you'll go, but from what I've been told passing the second screening essentially means that you got the scholarship. The odds are heavily in your favor, and it's now a matter of seeing which university you'll be placed in to.

What I was curious about was whether or not anyone had received a confirmation from their embassy stating their official acceptance into a particular university. Again, sorry for any confusion!

Ah ok I see what you mean, my bad ! Then I guess @Jpstudies is right of course when he says that we will certainly receive the official mail from the embassy in late july, that's what the embassy told me too, early august at the latest. However, the wait is obviously even more terrible for those who didn't get any news since the 1st screening to plan anything.

Has anyone heard anything yet? the wait is killing me at this point. I think I will go crazy at some point haha... I hope this year they will let people know early and not sometime in the middle of August..

I still haven't received any notice from the embassy but I've just received my acceptance letter from Doushisha.

I haven't heard anything, and I really hope to know soon! It's hard not know where and when I'm going because there are so many things to plan for and people to notify because of my job and family situation haha

Not a whisper :( my contact at my embassy said on June 30th that he would check with the head embassy in DC to see whether there was any new information but I haven't heard one way or the other.

My embassy contact got back to me today saying that there was no placement news yet but that they need me to sign a pledge in order to progress. Basically they want me to promise not to be an embarrassment while I'm there, conduct myself in a lawful manner, not bring shame on my scholarship providers, stay on top of my studies, and so on. I know it's not really news but I was happy to hear something at least.

@HikariKaitou I think that means that you got it? Signing a pledge is basicly one of the final steps in the process I think...

On a different note, I got an e-mail today from my embassy saying I got the scholarship!!! I'm really happy and I also got my first choice as my university. So I am really happy and hope you guys can get your results as soon as possible!!

@HikariKaitou It's pretty "funny", I didn't know we had to sign a pledge. Anyway, as JpStudies told you, it seems to mean that you got the scholarship, indeed.

@Jpstudies Congratulations ! I'm glad you made it to your first choice ! I was sure you'd get in, otherwise Sophia Uni wouldn't contact you that early, I guess. Enjoy your stay and your experience over there ! You guys got the results earlier than last year, that's cool !

No news for me since the mail of "almost-sure-acceptance", we were supposed to attend a meeting at the embassy on July, but I didn't get any news ever since. According to my embassy, I will get the results in the next 2 weeks, both exciting and stressful ! If anyone hear news about Osaka Uni or Ritsumeikan, feel free to tell !

@Oaneyl Thanks! I felt a little relieved when they contacted me but I still wasn't sure and I prefer 100% certainty haha! And yeah I'm really surprised we got the results this fast, I was expecting late july or early august, although I am quite happy it came faster than usual haha... I'm sure you're getting your news soon too, but you already " know " it so it's just a matter of waiting.

Whoa, nice! Congratulations! How exciting! I hope this means the rest of us will find out soon!

Greetings everyone!!
I applied to the MEXT Scholarship for Japanese studies and received the acceptance letter from Doshisha University a couple of weeks back.

Out of curiosity, has anyone who's received their placement been given approximate departure dates?
