In a story I'm reading. I mum recognises one of her children just by hearing her footsteps. The child yayoi asks how did she do it.
The mum says.
やよい、いるんでしょ、やよいってばぁ
I get the feeling that it means to "sense"
Is that right?
Thanks I was way off the mark.Nope. Now there may be something from previous or following sentences that casts more light on the situation but ってば here just adds emphasis and a bit of annoyance.
[EDIT] Ninja'ed
That makes so much sense now. Thank for that.http://ejje.weblio.jp/content/ってば
It's a suffix that indicates annoyance. "Come on Yayoi, I know you're here"
Do you say the て sound? Or is it silenthttp://ejje.weblio.jp/content/ってば
