Hi guys,
In a story I'm reading. I mum recognises one of her children just by hearing her footsteps. The child yayoi asks how did she do it.
The mum says.
やよい、いるんでしょ、やよいってばぁ
I get the feeling that it means to "sense"
Is that right?

Nope. Now there may be something from previous or following sentences that casts more light on the situation but ってば here just adds emphasis and a bit of annoyance.

[EDIT] Ninja'ed

Thanks I was way off the mark.
In the previous sentences yayoi was asked to come down stairs to by her mother.
But after that she's wondering how her mum knew it was her. Hence my guess.
Thanks for clearing that up.
