Nozomi and Hikari are names of shinkansen "bullet trains" routes. The faster/newer trains run the Nozomi routes which have fewer stops and the older, slower trains run Hikari routes which have a few more stops. The actual time difference is usually not very significant. It's important to know if you buy a rail pass when you are visiting Japan because the rail pass excludes the Nozomi. So you need to make sure you don't mistakenly ride a Nozomi and incur a surcharge.

More shinkansen action, this time it's a movie based on the 2010 novel "Maria Beetle" by Japanese author Kotaro Isaka starring Brad Pitt. The original story is set in Japan, with a lot of the action taking place on a bullet train travelling north from Tokyo to Morioka, in Iwate Prefecture.
