Marijuana discovered in apartment after reports of fire

Police on Thursday arrested a 27-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of possessing illegal substances. Authorities received reports of a fire in the Sapporo apartment block at dawn. Upon entering the suspect's apartment, police found he had been renting it for the purpose of cultivating marijuana plants.

Police believe the reports of a fire were false and the identity of the caller is still unknown. At the time the report was received, the suspect was downstairs attending a barbecue on the balcony of another resident, police said. The man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing dried cannabis. Police also seized 145 marijuana plants found on the property.

LOL! What can i say about that? A call for fire, and then discovering of marijuana. Now what a weird coincidence hahaha... I bet the guy that ranted the apartment was like: "Wooo... Dude.... What the blue guys doing here, bro? Pass me that **** before they take me man..."

Fires at marijuana grow-houses are fairly common because of the high-wattages and amateur wiring jobs that are necessary. A grower doesn't typically call a licensed electrician, who might call the cops.

the report of a fire turned out to be false, which makes me think someone knew what was going on and wanted to tip the police without directly telling them, knowing if they came to investigate a fire they would discover the drugs...

Marijuana isn't even a dangerous drug. They're as dangerous as any prescribed pain killer when misused. Some do gooder thought they were doing their community a big favor by calling the police. The caller is a misguided idiot.

oh, that poor "unemployed" guy who rented an apartment to grow weed and got caught. Regardless of how you might feel about marijuana, it's still an illegal substance, and as such, it attracts the criminal element.

This guy wasn't smoking a joint on his porch, or growing for personal use. He was growing well over a hundred plants in a rented apartment. I have no sympathy for him. In all likelihood, he was looking over the growing operation for a local crime syndicate, an expendable pawn.

If you outlaw something, it will make it more attractive to less than savory elements of society. That's been proven time after time in modern history. The prohibition, and marijuana come to my mind the quickest.

You're enabling these "crime syndicates" by making their product all the more desirable and harder to obtain. Congratulations!

Although, he said it was for personal use when caught... BTW, I am not defending him, just wondering how that much weed could be for one person. This comes to mind.

145 plants sounds like a lot for personal use, if grown to maturity. The cops bust a lot of pot growers around here (frequently after a fire), but usually only the larger commercial growers. I think 145 plants would be enough to get attention for a police raid even around here.
