News M6.3 quake hits Ishikawa

I wonder whether @johnnyG got rattled today: an M6.3 shook Ishikawa Prefecture today, with the epicentre at the northern tip of Noto Peninsula.

A strong earthquake hit Ishikawa Prefecture on the Sea of Japan side of central Japan at around 2:42 p.m. on May 5, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 measured an upper 6 on the 7-point Japanese intensity scale in the Ishikawa Prefecture town of Suzu, and an upper five in the town of Noto in the same prefecture. It hit 4 in the neighboring prefectures of Toyama and Fukui. A series of aftershocks were recorded in Ishikawa Prefecture following the quake. [...] The epicenter of the tremor, which struck at a depth of about 10 kilometers, was located in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture.

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake, which measured a strong 6 on the shindo (intensity) scale, was detected at a depth of 10 kilometers in Ishikawa Prefecture on Friday at 2:42 p.m.

There was some damage reported, one person died falling from a ladder.

Definitely felt it, maybe a 2 or so here? Edit: wife insisted it was a 4, and checking, she's right (of course...!).

Keep backing that up till you get to 14:42

Epicenter up around Suzu, and there's the town by that name but also the whole tip/end of the peninsula goes by that name now.

The phones went nuts, as appropriate, and we had about a 30 second warning.

Another theory circulating through all news programs was that a buildup of water deep underground might be behind more than 300 swarm earthquakes that have rocked Suzu City.
