Hi, any ideas on how to look for someone in Japan under the name of Shun Tanaka Nagai? He was married to a Filipina and they have a son whom he left when he was a baby. I just want to know if he is still alive or what.

There is no person who has two surnames. A surname "Tanakanagai" is barely possible, but quite quite uncommon. It's far more possible that it's just a mistake of "Tanaka" or "Nagai".

hello, the name indicated in the birth certificate was Shun Tanaka Nagai. The Tanaka was his middle name

Japanese do not have middle names.
Could he have been a US person of Japanese heritage?

Then, the information is simply wrong.
Even if his correct name is "Shun Tanaka" or "Shun Nagai", it's almost impossible to identify the person without knowing the kanji name. And furthermore, even if you know the kanji name, it would be quite hard since "Shun", "Tanaka" and "Nagai" are very common names.
