I am looking for any resources that can help me locate my paternal grandmother who is Japanese and whom I never met. My father is already in his 70s; I am hoping that I may be able to find his mother, his older sister, and/or their descendants during his lifetime.

I have my grandmother's name and some other limited information. If any one out there can help or can show me the way to begin the search, I'll be most grateful.

The search is extremely difficult unless you or a member of your family comes to Japan. It is difficult even then.

If you know the exact name of your grandmother (including her name written correctly in kanji) and her permanent residence in Japan while she was in Japan, you may be able to request a copy of koseki touhon (ナ津仰静絶?慊」窶怒ツ) of her family from the municipal government where the address of permanent residence is located. That way, you will be able to get clues to the names of her siblings and, with luck, where they live at present.

You really need someone to do these things for you... ☝

That's about the only thing I can think of... :cautious:

Good luck to you and your father...
