Hello

My daughter is a Japanese language student in Yokohama. She is in need of some help in her Japanese language studies.

Looking for a Female locally in Yokohama or Zoom remote to help explain to her things that may be struggling with.

Your background and degree status Not important. But a good understating of English and Japanese is important
so she can ask questions about Japaneses language.

Willing to pay for this service for my daughter at a reasonable rate

Thank you

Mark

Unfortunately we don't have a critical mass of participants here so you're not likely to find somebody who provides this service here. I'd probably try to find somebody on a Facebook group. However if she wants to ask language questions on the forum here, we can answer her questions.

Hello, any other resources other than Facebook ?

Any other websites or forums you could suggest ?

Thank you

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum

Try Tokyoacademics.com, located in Sangenjaya, Tokyo. I am sure they can recommend someone who can help you via Zoom.
Thank you, I took a look at there website, looks like mostly a school environment and probably expensive. She is in school currently in Yokohama, I think we are looking for a one on one person who speaks very good English that can help her over some difficulties she is having with Japanese. Does not need to be a teacher but someone who can help.

You could try the local classifieds as well such as

If the school has some type of bulletin board system , might be worth trying that if she hasn't already tried. Also , you would thing the school would have some type of counselor who might know of a tutor who would work. It must be frustrating to be a long distance dad , trying to help. I sure hope she can find help.

Mark,

I agree that Tokyo Academics is a classroom environment and isn't what you are looking for. But they probably know someone who is willing to do an "arubaito" on the side and help you out.

I am still waiting for my school's ex-secretary to get back to me.

We are working and using websites suggested, Thank you.

I think she really just needs someone how speaks both to chat with for a half hour.

We will continue to look

It is the service that Yokohama-shi provides.
International lounges
International lounges provide support to non-Japanese residents of Yokohama City. These lounges provide a variety of information on daily life along with consultations in multiple languages. Their other services include Japanese classes, dispatch of volunteer interpreters, cross-cultural events, etc.

Mark,

I was able to contact the lady who used to be the secretary at my school and I am telling her about your daughter. But a couple of questions come to mind.

Is your daughter able to have short chats in Japanese?

Can she read and write hiragana and katakana?
