Honestly, I'm feeling kind of fed up. It's like people know no moderation.
At every Japan related forum I go to, there's like a million of these.

It's like as soon as someone takes an opinion of "Well ok...Japan has it's problems, but maybe it's not so bad" someone is always there to assume the other person thinks the country has no problems and tell them what they already know, about fingerprinting, Japanese only signs, politicians like Ishihara and the like.

I swear a lot of people, when they talk about Japan, they sound like black nationalists. And I dunno about earlier black nationalists, but the ones today are pretty annoying.

If this thread results in people once again saying "but you must know, Japan is RACIST" you'll prove my point exactly. And from my past experiences, I assume that's what will happen.

And I live in fairy land where everyone sings songs all day and everyone one wears white robes and there is peace and harmony, no swearing and everyone is inoccent uncorrupted human beings...

Oh ,no wait... thats where you live...

Fact of the matter ,there racism is anywhere in the world and Japan no more so than the next nation, but it is there.

Oh yes, I fully agree with you there! True is also that some countries ( generally speaking) are more inclined to racism than others. I don't see Japan as a typical racistic country. I never noticed that Asians are extremely rascistic.

I also think that most citizens in this world are less racistic than villagers in this world.
That is why I love big towns, somehow they make me feel at home.

What was the point of starting this thread? You didn't seem to have anything to say and darned little to vent, except perhaps some rehashed thoughts.

Did you have a question or major remark to make?

Don't like some threads? Don't read them.

A great advice you gave yourself. Don't like some Threads? Don't read them.
Show us a good example.

Its not like the OP's advertising childporn or viagra, right?

I looked over the OP here a number of times, as carefully as I could. I double checked with other threads in other nearby areas to see if any new ones had been created. I compared this thread's title and OP content with the area it had been in, and cross-checked with my research results, and decided that the OP is not related to Japan nearly as much as it is related to an opinion or emotion about a subject matter as it relates to Japan--a bit too indirect in my opinion.

For that reason, I have judged that it should be here in Chit Chat & Misc. (it deals more so on a member's opinion of a general state of affairs.)

As has been noted, while what (as I contend) is fashionably, yet not nearly as precise a word, racism (and its forms) is a matter of out-group condemnation all over the world. On any forum (JREF included) that focuses on Japan, I would think that one would pretty much expect that this topic be somewhat confined to the related area--that is Japan.

I agree that it should be most balanced and realistic, and not just out-group condemnation. As I have said many times before, and will consistently stand by, once we have all more clearly merged into one single in-group, this will tend to happen much less, and less harshly.

Maybe the OP was not very clear in what he was saying but, in a way, I can see where the OP is coming from as most other forums, outside of JREF, are quite into the Japan bashing thing and thrive on pointing out Japan's faults and they do not want for members as there are many on the Japan Bashing Bandwagon.

Also, on other forums, for those that have differing points of view based on long term experience, (vs their less than 2-3 years experience and knowing nothing of the language and culture) they are usually banned in time, or accused of looking at Japan through "rose-colored glasses" and failing to notice the blemishes.

These forums I just stay away from which is why JREF is the only Japan related forum I participate on. To steal a phrase from Fox News, JREF is "fair and balanced" and it is a joy participating here because the moderators (Mars Mans' post above as an example) keep it that way because they live there AND KNOW something of the language and culture. Others have lived there long term (Glenski, Mike Cash, Dutch Baka, Taiko666, etc) and have much to add as they live and work much as a Japanese would, especially Mike!

Japan bashers who join JREF soon leave, never to return, as do those who only look at Japan through "rose-colored" glasses.

Most of the people on this forum know the blemishes Japan has and work around them or try to change them, but they ALSO know the finer points of Japan or they would not be living there so long.

At least here, at JREF, we can be frank in our views of Japan and respect the views of others. Even though we may disagree with each other at times, at least we have one thing in common, and that is a love of Japan, warts and all. And for anyone thinking that Japan has no warts, or for anyone thinking that Japan is totally racist, you are in the wrong place.

Oh no Another "OMG Japan is so great thread......" We don't see many of these posts. But there is always people to point out the opposite. It's pretty even on both sides if you ask me, so there really shouldn't be a reason to create EITHER thread. Are we just trying to get a rise out this forum "Pretty Ice"!?

Japan is like everywhere else in the world, it has its pro's and cons. There will always be things about Japan's politics and society that will frustrate us, but then again its a culturally different place and altogether all its pro's and cons and more are what make it so interesting.
I haven't been on other Japan forums so i can't really comment on the Japan bashing thing, but to be honest i haven't seen much of it going on here- things have improved a lot here over the years, and on the whole i would say this is a pretty balanced forum with a nice wide variety of members from different walks of life etc, which is good 👍 . I don't see the harm in having a few Japan bashers and Japan *** kissers around on the forum either way though, because on the whole they add to the variety of opinion on the JREF community- if they bash or *** kiss too much then people will notice this and start to loose respect for them, but then thats their problem and nothing to concern oneself with :) .

Which of course, if this is the case, it does not warrant slews of threads about the matter.

Instead of treating this like something that exists in every country, people take a nihonjinron perspective to the matter a lot of the time.

I'm just going to ignore that little ad hominem personal attack about the fairy land. Or actually, perhaps the word her is strawman.

No personal attak, just a reality check, I have nothing personal against you at all.

Maybe a lot of people take exception to Japan's racism, since they don't seem to care much that it exists or try to do much about it....? Pretty much the feeling I get when here (or there).

"Is [insert any country name here] racist?" seems to be a pretty popular thread on expat internet forums throughout the world. Japan is no exception. Either most countries are racist or most expats are whiners (or both :-)).

If that's your idea of a reality check, then it appears you are the one in need of a reality check.

Look and pay attention and read people's words and stop making up inane falsities.
Your reading comprehension is bad and you should feel bad.

You need a reality check that I never said the bullshit you did.
Sorry for calling that a personal attack though, what you did is called a strawman.
In fact you're still continuing the strawman.

So if someone doesn't think Japan is the most racist country ever they live in a fairy land and need a reality check eh?

You are exactly the type of person I was referring to when I made this thread.

Let me see if I understand this correctly:

You're fed up with threads discussing racism in Japan.

So out of frustration, you start a thread which has basically no direction to go except to turn into a thread discussing racism in Japan.

Furthermore, you're a 22 year old in Arkansas who presumably doesn't know crap about it other than what he's been reading in those threads anyway and who is in no way affected by the absence or presence of racism in Japan.

Does that about sum it up?

Compared to whats happening in the j-music subforum, this is a completely harmless topic.
Besides, its not like anyone could tell him: "Don't be frustrated, don't, don't! *low pitched death growl*!
Actually, the OP didn't say that there's no racism in Japan.
Also, if you say people unaffected by occurences in Japan should refrain from commenting on Japanese issues, thats like stating: "Ok, well, you see people, all of you not living in Japan, **** off, delete your accounts and don't come back again!"

I agree, some of what the OP said has been twisted by others, however at the end of the day we should still have the right to say what we want about Japan (or any other country for that matter). That doesn't mean that we shouldn't have to pay the consequences for what we say, however i don't think the problem the OP has raised in the thread is really that highly relevant to this Japanese forum- i personally don't see it as much of a problem over here (does anyone else?).

Speaking of twisting, how was it arrived at that I said the OP (or anyone else) should refrain from commenting?

I'll explain.

Furthermore, you're a 22 year old in Arkansas who presumably doesn't know crap about it other than what he's been reading in those threads anyway and who is in no way affected by the absence or presence of racism in Japan.
The above message pretty much equals:

"Ok son, you don't know jack, so **** and don't make a sound since you've nothin' to do with Japan!"

Which displays your lack of critical reading skills.

And your overwhelming arrogance. :D
Please do not feel obliged to write back.
I am ready to continue exchanging personal attacks until the end of the world, but, I'd rather not, as its tiring... but if you insist.

If this thread results in people once again saying "but you must know, Japan is RACIST" you'll prove my point exactly. And from my past experiences, I assume that's what will happen.

From this statement wouldn't it have been better to not make this thread? It's like your asking for people to come complain about Japan's so called racism. I understand this is a Japan Related forum so what happen sin the rest of the world doesn't matter. BUt if you know people are going to bash Japan to try to prove their point. Why give them "Another OMG Japan is so Racist thread." What exactly is the point?

I believe it's called a "rant". Where I came from we often called it "venting".
