King of Tokyo said:Actually he is correct, he did not make that thread. It was his partner in posting - HITMAN-X/Bounty Hunter/GHOSTFACE KILLA.
That is a though, even though Ninja were outlawed many many years before the samurai were, how come in the Last Samurai contained Ninja?
By the end of the Edo period Samurai were, on the whole, no longer warriors, they were bureaucrats and politicians who carried swords as a symbol of their power and status.
I used to hear that the salarymen are the modern samurai, going off to do battle armed with a briefcase.
Now, something we never ever ever stop to think about is that the samurai had homes to go to and, in peaceful times, got up and did the equivalent of going to the "office" every day.
Is he any kin to the last surviving Samurai? You know, that white guy in England.
Huh?Something else that tickles the hell out of me is the foreigners who are enamored of the "ronin" because they were "masterless" samurai. They seem to think that "masterless" meant they were somehow superior. What it actually meant was that they were unemployed.
Huh?
I always had the impression that it was not good to be ronin, and that you could get mercenary work, but it was always hard to become a formal samurai for a daimyo because of the lack of trust that being a ronin engendered.
I have never met somebody who thought the life of a ronin was preferable. Romantic, perhaps, by a stretch, maybe. But certainly not the ideal.
