Kyoto University 2011 (Monbukagakusho etc.)

I do hope that my departure will not be delayed. But what I can do now is to wait for further news from the embassy. I hope they've made a mistake again.

Well

Hi fellow Kyodai people. My names Daniel and I'll be studying philosophy as a research student with the aim of passing the entrance exam for doing masters. So, hopefully a three year stint all up.

Currently I've managed to get myself six months in the international house. I've had previous experience staying at student accommodation in Kyoto when I was on exchange at Ryukoku university in Kyoto several years back. It was fairly decent in some respects, but also pretty awful in others. That was mostly because of the shared kitchens/toilets however. From looking at the floor plans on the net it seems like ナ陳、ツ修ツ青カ rooms are self contained, so I'm happy about that. The rent is also basically nothing. 👍

Looking forward to meeting you guys. Let's have a good year.

Hi everyone!

I have received my airplane ticket, I will arrive monday the 4th at 14:45.

Dont think i will take the shuttle service, it requires me to stay over for the night and that gonna cost too much.

see you guys soon!

Hey guys,

Got my Visa, got my e-ticket, everything is good to go!

Damn, it seems that only I will have a delayed schedule. Haven't heard anything from the embassy since they informed me about the delayment.

Hip hip hooray... I've just got my ticket from the embassy
I'm going on 4th :)

hi, guys. After so many changes, it's funny that now the embassy asks me to get back to the original schedule to emark on April 4th....

Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of you have some sort of idea about our proposed schedule upon arrival at Kyoto, i.e. first day of classes and whether or not we have any other commitments leading up to that? Have your professors given you any kind of concrete schedule? Have they indicated whether or not someone will help you get set up as per your gaijin registration card, bank account, etc.? I understand there's supposed to be something important on the 11th...

Thanks,

Michael

Contact the Foreign Student Division of kyodai, they will give you a lot of information on the procedures. Also I received a booklet from the embassy on tuesday that also says what to do, where to do it.

Or make friends with some of the locals that will be working with you and then have them help you

Yeah, that's not quite what I meant. Generally, I know how to go about these things. I just wondered if we have any idea what their schedule for us is supposed to be. They haven't even told me our first day of classes yet...

Also, I have already been in contact with the FSD and my professor. They just haven't provided any clear suggestion as to the structure of what next week is going to look like.

And by contact, I mean I've directly asked them by email "Could you please tell me the first day of our program and if we have any other commitments prior to that?" multiple times without answer.

Hi, guys. I also haven't been told what to do. However, there is an oritentation campagne for Japanese students in the biology department which I'm gonna join.
I guess the first thing we have to do is to go to the Foreign Student Division. They might tell us what to do. Meanwhile, to be honest, from what I've seen so far, Kyoto University isn't that international and its schedule doesn't even fit the schedule of MEXT. I guess probably we'll have to do a lot of things ourselves or we can meet to do it together by ourselves.
