Hi all,

I have just registered here. Hope everyone is doing fine! :-)
I am confused and is soliciting for any advice or suggestions from you guys.
I just got married last January 2014 and is planning to apply for a dependent visa for my husband, who is now in the Philippines. I am holding an Engineer visa here in Japan and is working for almost 9 months with my second employer. I know how "mendoukusai" or much of a hassle it is to update my lastname (since I am now married) and marital status on all my documents (passport, insurance, pension, tax, etc). Should I have to change my lastname and marital status so that when we apply for my husband's visa and his coming here will be "smooth"? I mean, to avoid questions from immigration regarding our relationship based on our lastname?

Thank you. Feel free to ask me questions for clarifications.

It's your choice whether to take your husband's name, and if he had been Japanese, you get 6 months to make that choice. Ask the ward office or your embassy/consulate if the same applies to this situation.

As for any questions from immigration, just produce a copy of your marriage certificate.

Hi Glenski!
Thank you for that info. I really appreciate it :-)

Just wanna share the info I got from Japan Immigration. They told me that there will be no problem if I will still use my maiden name provided that my maiden name is reflecting on all of my important documents.
