Why did that actually shock you?

I had never encountered such a restroom before, for one thing. If I had known prior to entering that both men and women use it, I would have at least been prepared for it. But standing there with my business in my hand, doing my business and suddenly having an attractive young woman enter the restroom and matter-of-factly enter the stall to do her business was something I never could have imagined.

Good thing my reactions were slowed down by the copious amounts of booze I had been consuming, else I might have crapped myself from the surprise of it all.

Back in 2001 during my first trip to Japan, I was in Atami station waiting for my Shinkansen to arrive for my trip back to Tokyo. While there, I went into the men's room. To my surprise, the urinals were all lined up just inside the open (and wide) entrance to the men's room. The women had to pass the men's room entry to get to theirs. They can easily see men standing there relieving themselves. I thought that was bizarre.

At least they had those nice handy shelves to set your belongings on just above the urinals.

Yeah, it might be that they are probably more likely to be homo or bisexual due to all the kawaii thing, but I have another point.
Most Japanese men do nomikai (after work drinking) along with co-workers and spend more free time with friends drinking than with their own wives? I don't think this make them gay. Or does it?

Look anywhere in Britain or America. You see young teenage girls wearing mini-skirts and acting 'cute' as well as sexy. They hug each other, hang around with each other and spend all their time at each other's houses. If these girls (when they grew up) didn't have to work or had lots of time for themselves whilst their husbands spent most of their time at work, they would still continue to do this sort of thing with their friends. Due to Japanese culture, cuteness is more effective, but this doesn't stop them chilling with their friends whilst the husband is working late (as usual). They are just more open minded. The only reason anybody would think that they were lesbians would be if that was the culture that they had been brought up in, with more lesbians around than in Japan.

Pinson, look at any girl in america. You can't just see a girl hug another girl out of friendship and point at them and shout 'lesbian', and then go to another girl and brand them lesbian, or else you'd have to brand almost every woman around as lesbian.
And then you would get onto little boys (about 2 years - 10 years old) who kiss their mum and dad goodnight and say 'he is going to be gay/bisexual because he kissed his dad'.

The thing is, kissing and hugging and spending time with somebody is just a way of showing them that you think a lot of them and you want a friendship.

The only time you have to worry about any girl being lesbian is if she goes to another girl and slips her hand up her skirt.

Most of what was mentioned about japanese girls can be applied to american girls. Girls like things that are cute??!!!! How novel and japanese! I have many girl friends who will act very affectionate (sometimes sexual) especially out in the clubs but they are not necessarily lesbians (although some of them are).
