Japan's avg height?

I am curious to know since Jeff mentioned being tall in Japan.

I am about 6'5" and I am curious to know how much I will tower of the people of Japan. I keep imaging my self just staring down and a bunch black and blonde died heads bobbing around to thier daily routines.

I am sure I am probably taller then 97.75% of People in Japan but how true is this scenario?

Anybody have any experience being substantially taller while visiting japan?

Man, you are a giant in Japan! But that shouldn't cause any problems, other than that your feet might stick out of the bed. People will still treat you the same. But ask which NBA team you play for. J/K

I'm about 5'10" and I'm taller than most Japanese males my age or older, but there are now quite a few tall males in their 20s and younger. So, overall, across-the-board, average among the entire male population might be about 5'9" or 5'8".

In the 1960s, there was a pro-wrestler named "Giant Baba". He was 6'11" and 320 lbs. He was a national hero.

I know and thanks for trying to cheer me up, but I'm extremely short for the average white American height. I'm only 5'6''.

I'm only 5'8", thats pretty short in north american standard, and im a basketball player, i play with guys that are like 6'5" , i ain't no Spud Webb, he was 5'7" but he won the Slam Dunk contest in 1986, he first dunked with two hands when he was 4'11"...

5'6" isn't too bad.

Although North Americans tend to be tall, I have met Europeans (I don't remember their nationalities) who are relatively shorter than North Americans. Some were about my height, I think.

6'5" is huge by Japanese standards. Stuff in Japan isn't made for people who are over 6' tall, you'll be bumping your head on everything until you get used to it.

This makes me sad as my head is sensitive. But hey maybe I can knock japanese loose after a few bumps and get better at speaking it.

Back in the 1970s, singer Randy Newman had a song titled "Short People." I'm only of average height but I hated that song. Imagine if he had a song "Fat People"--somebody would've complained.

hmmmm I don't really know my height in inches and feet, but in metric i am 183- 184 cm. Speakin of girls taller than guys, sometimes when i go to the netherlands or even here in Belgium i see some girls just as tall or even taller tha me. Can't have that, I think taller girls are umm quite intimidating

On the other hand, you will most likely provide tons of comic relief for your friends! Last year, a tall friend of mine was visiting here, and he kept knocking his head in doorways all the time. The best part is we got most of it on video!

I'm 6-2, so I'm a tad shorter than Damicci. I remember when I was in Japan and went to see Pink Lady in Yokohama, in the concert hall, I stood head and shoulders over even the tallest men in the place, and wearing a red polo shirt and my red Philadelphia Phillies cap, I was like Yao Ming at a pygmy convention! It was a hoot!

Sounds like me fighting my best friend in Timesplitters. He likes playing as a monkey (about three feet), and I always choose somebody that's a bit taller (usually a female character, don't ask me why).
