In Sweden, the largest milk company sells a suppsedly japanese variant of non-sweetened yoghurt branded Onaka (stomach). Is it common in Japan? How do you eat it, with cereals? Is it for breakfast, lunch, dinner?

I buy yogurt here in Wakayama every now and then. I live in the middle of nowhere and my supermarket sells about 8 different kinds, and in places like Osaka you can find just about any kind that's made.

I love yogurt after eating curry. That or ice cream.

Hello Sr Pasta!

I didn't know about ONAKA and checked. It comes from the Japanese dairy manufacturer Takanashi Milk Products and certainly contains LGG (some form of lactobacillus they developed) that is resistant to the powerful gastric juices in your stomach and reaches the intestines to help the "good" bacteria grow in your digestive tract. For your reference:

It's not supposed to be any different in taste or appearance from other unsweetened yogurt products. Use it as you would other yogurt products! 🙂

Hi! Thanks a lot! I tried searching around but never found anything.

So, how does one eat yoghurt in Japan? In Sweden, we often it it for breakfast, with cereals. But I've heard people often eat rice meals for breakfast in japan?

We don't eat rice and yogurt TOGETHER

The traditional Japanese breakfast is rice, with miso-soup and maybe a slice of semi-dried, salted fish or some meat dish or natto (fermented soybeans), with pickles. If yogurt is eaten with it, it will be dessert with fruit (like banana), sugar, honey or jam as topping.

Personally, I like Western-style breakfast with yogurt as dessert. Japanese people eat yogurt on cereal, too. Generally, it is eaten the way most Westerners do.

Yogurt and rice is one of my most favourite dishes... mmm ...

But I think it's my-home-only kinda creation food , so can't blame the Japanese for not eating it

I think the japanese yoghurt packs are so pretty , backet-like 😍

That sounds like a great breakfast, really. I'll be sure to try it!

I never knew that there was a japanese yogurt! *drools*

I'm getting hungry.

Yogurt sealed in a plastic kind of bag, my girl gave me... SOOO WIERD ( for me...)

Juice is added to yogurt, and it is made Lassy, and drinks.

Delicious, when it drinks in addition to miso soup.
In addition, I add yogurt to curry.

I happen to be a yogurt addict... In fact, I eat approximately one 500g container of yogurt every day (yes, I know that's a lot.) I buy the Topvalu brand you can find at any Jusco and costs about ツ??58. I don't eat a traditional breakfast, instead I have about 250g (low-fat plain yogurt that I buy is only 49kcal/100g with 4g of protein) with fresh fruit. At night, a couple hours before I go to bed I will eat another 250g, this time with oat bran or granola, and usually raisins thrown in (3 tablespoons) for the fiber. This along with the rest of my diet (pretty much vegetarian) plus excercising everyday for 40 minutes has helped me to lose 37kg in a span of about 9 months. I am 174cm tall (5'8") and went from 101kg to 64.0 atm. :-)
