Hi guy,

I watched one program on NHK, about an island where once in a year people go and speak to the soul of their ancestors through a messenger (very old lady). This messenger was reading the peoples palm and telling them what their ancestors want to say. I am curious to know whether Japanese people really believe in Astrology and Palmistry.

I've never heard of that particular practice.

Do Japanese people believe in astrology and palmistry? Some do. Some don't.

You see palm readers all over the place here, but I wouldn't say people believe it any more than western people do. The few people I know who've paid for one did it as a joke.

I believe what the OP referred to are the itako at Ozorezan in Shimokita-hanto.
