The Japanese health ministry is developing guidelines to encourage restaurants and customers to take home leftovers and reduce food waste. The guidelines will focus on preventing food poisoning and include recommendations on handling and storing leftovers safely. The ministry aims to implement these guidelines in the next fiscal year.

The Japanese government has set a target to reduce food waste by half from its 2000 level, which was 4.89 million metric tons, by 2030. This ambitious goal was successfully achieved in 2022 when food waste was estimated to have decreased to 4.72 million tons.

But what about all that wasted beer? Often the only way to not get plied with more beer is to leave your cup full.
