"TOKYO (Reuters) - The number of suicides in Japan rose in October for the fourth month in a row to the highest level in more than five years, data showed on Tuesday, a trend activists have blamed on the economic impact of the coronavirus, on women in particular."

This is sad news indeed. Unless it's the case of a celebrity or another unusual occurrence, suicides or suicide attempts aren't reported by Japanese media.

Unusual as in this case in Gifu last week:

 
I think part of the issue, compared to some other countries, is how Japanese view suicide and how they view getting help for emotional/mental issues. Viewing suicide as acceptable, and even admirable in some circumstances and viewing getting help as shameful doesn't help the matter. :(
