Japan finishes 91st in world gender equality rankings

I guess Japan still has a lot to do in the near future.

(Kyodo) _ Japan ranks 91st in terms of gender equality among the world's 128 countries, slipping 11 ranks from a year ago, according to the latest annual report released by Swiss-based think tank World Economic Forum on Thursday.
The survey was enlarged to cover 13 more nations than a year ago, seven of which, including Cuba and Vietnam, finished above Japan.

The statistics reflect the gaps women face in economic participation and opportunities, educational attainments, and health, as well as the degree of their political empowerment.

Japan placed 37th in health and 69th in education. It fared much more poorly in other fields, finishing 97th in economic opportunities and 94th in political empowerment.

Three Scandinavian countries stayed in the top slots, with Sweden again topping the rankings, followed by Norway and Finland.

The Philippines, ranked sixth, is the only Asian country that made it into the top 10, as it did last year. China ranked 73rd and South Korea 97th.

Among major industrialized powers, Germany ranked seventh, Britain 11th and the United States 31st.

The World Economic Forum is known for sponsoring an annual economic meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

About what could be expected, in some ways, I would think. Of course I'm in no position to verify the methods used, or whatever, but even given the regular 3 percent margin for error, I am not that surprized at the results--even as regards the US.

If the social schemas which tend to put the idea into the female population from early childhood, that female means taking 'track F,' as opposed to 'track M,' it might start to make a big difference somewhere down the road.

Japanese women are not so stupid as to get on the Feminazi wagon as her US counterparts have done.

The social engineers in the West, and especially in the US have tried for longer than I know about to create a wedge between the male/female relationship so as to orchestrate its destruction. It has been successful except in Japan. But the PC ratchet only goes in one direction so the Japanese will need to be stoic as the decline here will simply take a lot longer than it has in the West. Or maybe a miracle will occur and those controlling the US will be thankfully euthanased.

But the brainwashing is pretty thorough and I'm sure what I have said is heresy. More witch hunts anyone?

I'm impressed that China ranked above Japan. I've heard some pretty gruesome stories about some Chinese men and their wives (even in public)...

There's a lot of things I like about Japan. Submissive women isn't one of them.

By casual observation, it seems Japanese women want to get married and stay home (while their husbands do the money making duties). Usually the one who makes money has an upper hand in the society.

From this stat., Dutch rape crime per capita is some 6 times more than Japan.
Other Western countries (They call themselves as More Gender Equality Countries ), such as Australia, Canada, UK, Scandinvian, .... are much worse than Nederlands.

I suggest All women in the world to be careful about traveling in those "Gender Equality Countries" coz their more gender quality means more rape crime.

Rape is criminal matter, gender equality is a civil/human rights issue. You are demonstrating your ignorance by confusing the two or drawing a line between them. Gender equality comprises matters such as equal pay, equality in education, pregnancy leave and suchlike. Rape is clearly a matter for the criminal courts and the law enforcement.

Yeah, the study only looked at the contribution of women to society. It did not assess rape or other gender related hate crimes. Just the 4 things: Education, Health, Economic Participation, and Political Empowerment.

In the real world it is a flagrant, impossible contradiction to have an educated, healthy, economically and politically empowered female population that fears for their physical safety.

I think what you say is "sophistic" (sorry if it's inappropriate in Official English).

Basic idea about Gender equality is ..... woman can walk safely, woman can work safely, woman can travel safely .... as a human being. Meanwhile, in the self-claimed gender equality countries in the West, basic human right (safety) is not guranteed.

So the West (so-called more gender equality than Japan) should improve their rape-culture before talking about gender equality of non-West.

Gender equality is equality de jure. Rape is something to be tackled by enhancing law enforcement agencies. Legislation or case law forbidding rape already exists in all states, but in the case of rape, there is no transparency, it is a criminal issue, so it falls under the authority of the police, the prosecution and the courts. You cannot compare unwillingness to legislate with difficulties giving power to legislation. They are different things.

And maybe Japan should explicitly define incest and marital rape as crimes under the penal code, make the sentence for a rapist higher than 3 years (now less than robbery), raise the age for consensual sex from 13 to 16 yrs., establish more than one rape crisis center in the country, train police, the health care system, prosecutors and courts on how to handle rape cases...

Even female Justice Minister Keiko Chibathe recognizes the imbalance between Japan's economic presence and women's participation in society and has promised to get serious about gender equality.

The point is .... Gender Equality, excluding element of Woman's Safety, is not worth for consideration as the most import element is not included.

Sex crimes in Japan have surged in recent years, with rape cases jumping 40 percent to 2,228 in 2001, from around 1,600 four years earlier, according to the National Police Agency. Offenses such as groping and obscenity tripled to 9,326 cases in 2001 from a decade ago.

The increase is due at least in part to a greater inclination by women to report attacks to police. Since the Super Free scandal broke, more of its alleged victims have come forward.

Rape-themed videos account for about a fifth of the porno offerings at chain rental stores, with titles like "Idol Rape Crime File" ranking among the top five in weekly X-rated sales. Popular comic books and video games often depict rape fantasies where teenage girls, nurses and housewives willingly submit to rapes and other sex assaults from relatives, neighbors or even police. A 17-year-old high school student arrested in June for allegedly raping 31 women reportedly told police he was trying to re-enact scenes he saw in porno books and magazines.
