Everytime I want to japanese resturant,I refused to eat mustard and used vinegar or soya sauce instead...
I think it's not only very hot but also can make your lung/nose and windpipe feel terrible!!
I am not the only one,who "dare" not eat mustard...But it is said that almost every japanese can / like eating mustard...is it ture?
As a japanese,do you like mustard and why do you love it?
:?:unsure::sick::genji:

When you say mustard, are you talking about "wasabi"?

ナスRヒ?ィ?
A Japanese restaurant does not put wasabi on a table.
:?
When I eat sashimi, I turn on wasabi.
Because Allyl isothiocyanate is included to wasabi, it is necessary when I eat a live fish.
Allyl isothiocyanate - Wikipedia

Besides sashimi, sushi,
When I eat Zarusoba, a small quantity uses wasabi.

Karashi is mustard, wasabi is horseradish. I love them both (I'm not Japanese). But asking if all Japanese like wasabi is ridiculous; of course not.

I actually know more Japanese that don't like wasabi than do. Re: condiments, ketchup seems to be gaining in popularity while mayo is still going strong. I have some friends who use/put mayo in/on just about anything and everything (bleh).

I'm not Japanese but my mother insists I was in my past life, so I guess you can choose to disregard this comment. XD But anyways, wasabi is really strong. X_X I had peanuts covered in wasabi powder DX It was really hot, but once I drank something it was okay again. Never again. XD

Condiments... hmm... I'm not much a fan of those. I'm a plain-Jane. XD But some things on certain foods are okay... like sauces on tofu or noodles. Yum! But ketchup? Ick. I hate ketchup. Mayo is okay but it depends what you put it on, for me at least.

The benefits of wasabi, mustard, black pepper, cayenne pepper, jalapenos, etc are enormous and very healthful to the human body. Check out this link for wasabi.

Cayenne pepper is said to have its most benificial use in cleaning out clogged arteries surrounding the heart that is caused by the eating of high fat content fast foods and I take it daily.

Whether it is true or not I cannot say as I am not a doctor or scientist, but I believe it to be so based on my last visit, three years ago, to the doctor. I was advised, because of my age, to have what is called a "Heart view" where the arteries are inspected for plaque. I underwent the procedure (which insurance would not cover! How stupid to not cover a preventative procedure, but that's the US medical system for you) at a cost of $100.

I am 52 years old and the results came back about a week later saying that I had "zero plaque" and my "heart age" was 35!

The doctor could not believe it and asked if I was a vegetarian. I answered no, I was not as I do enjoy my hamburgers, steak, cheese, pizza, and french fries now and then (only in moderation though).

In my opinion I believe my results were the cause of taking cayenne pepper daily in tomato/vegetable juice. (Cayenne capsuls are no good in that the hottness of the pepper on the tongue sends a signal to the stomach to start secreting chemicals to protect the stomach from the hot pepper). The pepper then does it's job of increasing the body's temperature to kill viruses and such (as they cannot survive in high temperatures. That's why you sweat when eating peppers) and cleaning out the blood vessels and arteries surrounding the heart. Cayenne pepper, as well as other peppers are considered the "Roto-Rooter" (a drain cleaning company in the US) for the arteries.

You can read about the benefits of cayenne pepper here and here.

Therefore, any and all peppers (the hotter the better) including wasabi have a very good effect on the human body and are nothing but beneficial. They are most definitely a part of my daily diet. Remember, it only burns twice. Once when it goes in and once when it comes out, but the benefits are well worth it! Your body will thank you and you will live longer.

Eating junk food and red meats in moderation would help your body a ton vs most people eat junk food a lot... But, whatever floats your boat :p
A good example of people eating junk food a lot. I eat a salad at jack in a box everyday and reduce the calaries and carbs by 2/3's. By using only 1/4 dressing and 1/4 of the crunchies. While i see people that come in daily getting hamburgers and fries all the time.
My current roomate is a really good example of eating bad all the time vs moderation. He goes out to eat constantly and has ice cream all the time. Sometimes on weekends he will have ice cream 3 times in one day!!!!
He is 55 years of age and currently has to take 2 medications. one for his blood pressure and one for some random i don't care thing.

When I was in Japan, I never saw standard American yellow mustard in restaurants or food stands. It was always the much hotter Chinese-style mustard. Does anybody know if that is still true?

I can't say I've ever come across the mustard I'm used to here, but I have had the spicy dark yellow kind with little brown bits in it.

They're both available in Japan now.
The hot one is called "karashi," and the American mustard is called "masutaado," though the French dijon mustard is the preferred among gourmet eaters. 😊

I'm not a big fan of karashi or マスタード ^ ^;
I like wasabi though x]

it depends in what mood i am, mostly im in a fresh mood so i take them both because i like them both (sometimes) but wasabi has a strong influence on me (im japanese and as you see your statement cannot be true not every japanese person likes wasabi above karashi or vice versa

............What?!....

Oooh! Now we know Gene Simmons' secret!

Thank you for the information. It just occurred to me that standard American yellow mustard might have been available in places like MacDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken, but I never went in those places. :-)
