This is what I've heard -

There is a belief amongst some Japanise women that Korean husbands treat their wives better than a Japanise husband does.

Therefore, some dating/marriage services in Japan are trying to match Japanise women with a Korean man.

how much of the popularity of Korean drama affecting this trend?

Your thoughts....

My thought is that you want to compair oranges with apples.

Some Japanese guys are better than Korean guys, some Korean guys are better than Japanese guys.

I have no idea, but from what I know, some cultures or races tend to be more 'lovable' with their respetive partners. People from different nationalities tend to be more open, so to speak, than others and this is true. Might be the case here.

E.g. I've read some women prefer Italian because of the stereotype that they are great lovers. Some people might prefer African American guys because they are known to be very passionate. This are some examples.

Maybe Korean guys are taught to treat their wives with more love, affection, etc. Might have to do with stereotypes from Korean soaps.

Many thanks for the Korean generosity, but nobody knows they are happy or not.
Probably many think international marriage increases becasue men and women have more diversity over the last 10 years.
3 times more increase of marriage from other countries for men
2 times more for women
But other major countries, Korea, China, US, Philipine, Thailand, Brazil and Peru, do not show any significant increase in the last 10 years.

Thanks for that data there, pipokun san, I think we should always try to get as many of the facts straight as possible, before trying to create an image of 'what it's like.'

I might be good, also, to be careful about giving too much face-value-trust to just everything that we read--depending, to a large degree, on what the source is.

I recall seeing some Japanese TV 'documentary' on the relationship between Korean women and their husbands--but I would never say that would reflect anything on all cases, and much less on Japanese husbands versus Korean husbands.

Among my Japanese friends here in Toronto, many are of the marrying age (23-30) and I have definitely heard from them that Korean men are 'nicer' than Japanese men. Actually, at the risk of sounding prejudice I will tell you precisely what they said.

The Japanese girls I know say its like this: Korean women are demanding, materialistic and a little mean. Korean men are therefore naturally more receptive, romantic, have more delicate attitudes towards relationships and are trained out of necessity to be 'nicer' all around.

Japanese men on the other hand are 'cold', and care little for things outside of work and business. They aren't as romantic.

In Toronto there is a large Korean migrant and student population and a steady stream of Japanese ESL students as well. I know of relationships that go both ways; Korean gfs and Japanese bfs as well as Korean bfs with Japanese gfs. But I think despite the notions and stereotypes that exist among young people they aren't paying too much attention to them when seeking a partner.

Rather, as I understand it, thanks largely in part to these same young people via music and movie cross-cultural exchange as well as the work/study abroad culture, there's more co-mingling going on between Koreans and Japanese. This may be helping the trend. Japanese and Korean music and movie stars are well known in both countries.

Please ask your Japanese friends that their Korean boyfriends said something like the above.
It seems to me that it is a typical complaint or a joke I hear from Korean men.

Anyways, it is not good of your Japanese friends to believe what their boyfriends said, but it is good of them to join this forum. I personally want to see the English-speaking Japanese with stereotypes.

:box:(Donning flame retardant suit)

I get the impression that wussies seek out Japanese/asian woman.

Even Korean men? What do Japanese guys want from foreign women that japanese women lack?☝

Maybe men around the globe should harden up.

I hear these kind of things often ...from ONLY Korean but not from Japanese girls. Not one Japanese girl around me has ever said such a thing... Honestly speaking, Korean culture isn't that popular in Japan (especially among young people) as Korean people would like to think. Despite the media's fuss, most of Japanese still aren't interested in Korea as well as Korean men (I guess food is an exception though). To me, it seems it's Korean men that love Japanese girls. Not Japanese girls love Korean men...

BTW, I'm Japanese female and I definitely prefer Japanese men. Japanese men tend to be shy and may look less expressive or outspoken, but imo, in general, Japanese men are sweet at heart and I found often times Japanese men are more mature, manly deep inside and open minded than Korean men.

BTW, I don't like Korean men often trying to give people the impression that they are better than Japanese men like this thread. I think it's really sneaky and unmanly thing to do...

I doubt they'll be able to join, most don't have internet access because their visas don't allow for work and they cant afford computers or service!

But, I think its definitely possible their comments are hearsay from their Korean boyfriends, or just Korean guys, we have alot of Korean guys in our group of friends. Every groups going to have its stereotype about other groups, it's like Canadians and Americans.

So many Japanese, so you may find poor Japanese who can afford to go to your country, but cannot use internet cafes or free interenet access from their schools.
Anyways, tell them to join here after they come back to Japan, but I think/hope their stereotypes would go away then.

well, u know the drill. koreans are more outspoken, rude and passionate. japanese are quieter, inert, and mild.

A big difference between japanese guy and a korean guy, is that many of the korean guys who go abroad have already finished over 2 years in the army. You become a bit tougher, but more importantly, you learn to work. They have are somewhat more commanding of their lives.

and i think its true that japanese girls are more "submissive" than korean girls. Korean girls will swear at you, while japanese girls will not. Its a cultural generalization, that has a grain of truth. I think.

As for one being popular over the other, is nonsense. People have this fantasy for something new and raw. So some korean girls/guys have fantasy about japanese guys/girls and vice versa.

I would just use the word "outspoken" and leave out the rude.:-)

Many Japanese men can have a very good work ethic, and some Korean men can have a poor work ethic. Both working environments seem to be a lot harsher with the long hours, when compared to the US.

To be honest , their isn't a real difference between korean and japanese men, they are both asian, they are both allies and they both speak different languages, they allmost eat the same food, and they both have their own writing style, hangul/kanji.

they are both gentile and friendly and they both bring good products to the world.

the one who said japan is better then korea or korea is better then japan is a fool.

but one thing is correct, japanese men are very friendly and have better manners.

one last example: i saw some korean guys and to be honest none of them were proper and friendly as me (japanese).

but yeah, they are a people on their own.

In my stay in Japan, in school, in the streets, at shops, I have found that out too, that Japanese peopleツ are very respectful. Even more than what I was expecting.

But please, do not say that Japanese men are very friendly and have better manners and then say that at the end they are people on their own. Kind of a contradiction, don`t ya think. I mean, I have had very few experiences with Chinese and 90% of the time they tried to cheat on me. E.g. they selling me stuff. But then again, I knew some other Chinese people who were as proper and as polite as they could be.

They can be gentle or 'yasashii,' have good manners, not be unfriendly and still not be 'romantic' or indulge themselves freely in life outside the office.

Except polite respect is not the reasons most people get married. Chinese people are not as known for their manners but they are much more down to earth, dynamic and outgoing which I would argue in the end to me constitutes being 'friendly' towards foreigners.

I know quite a lot of Japanese woman that would say even being sold something is more communication and engagement on an equal level in the relationship than what they get with their bf/husband of the same nationality.

Well, I think some guys are inevitably better than some. Imo, your personality doesn't depend on your nationality.

From a Korean man married to a Japanese woman...

My wife and I get asked (from our respective acquaintances) if the stereotypes hold true. Her friends, mostly Japanese, ask if I'm as sensitive as "Yon-sama" in Winter Sonata, and my friends, mix of Koreans and Americans, ask if she's submissive and docile. We know that the questions are meant light-heartedly and don't take offense at them. After all, we are all prone to (and subject to) stereotyping.

Quite frankly, when it comes to Korean men, it amazes me that people actually base their assumptions on characters from a TV show or a movie. When I think of my father (my Korean male role model), he is nothing like the modern day TV/movie stars. Of course, he's loving and tender, but he's not one to wear his heart on his sleeve. And in comparing him to my father-in-law, I see very little difference.

My wife, who always tries to be respectful to everyone, gets annoyed that her behavior is misconstrued as being submissive. Showing respect and yielding are two very different things. She is one of the strongest, most headstrong, most driven and least yielding person I know--and that's the reason why I love her so much.

Finding a spouse/life partner should not be approached with a mindframe akin to buying a car. There are no models that are better than another...although it is fun to visit the car lots and kick the tires ;)

IMHO .... I've always thought women ( regardless of ethnicity or nationality ) sought or married foreign men because they're either rejected or not desired by their own kind 😊

I think the same can be said of men.
During my time in Japan, I was simply appalled to see so many American guys (not exclusively Caucasian) try to pull sh*t that would definitely not fly in the U.S.

However, you can't deny some Japanese chicks have fantasy for White dudes 😊

( W-d ) I lived in Japan for a year while I was an exchange student at Chiba University. What's a "romantic gaijin"? I've heard that before, but I don't really understand the meaning?

( J-c ) "romantic gaijin" 1 caucasian, 2 good-looking,3 very kind for ladies....MAYBE ? In short,we Japanese woman are seeking some DORAMA,but Japanese guys never do such acts.

Lucky you! ✌️

I think that's what all good wives should be! :-)
