I guess love at first sight exists...scientifically

This study only seems to show something about how we choose either (a)potential partners, or (b) partners for sex.
A lot of people seem to say that they go by looks when choosing a partner initially, which is fairly obvious and natural I think, since this is pretty much the only information we have available to us before we actually talk. I think it would be hard to argue that appearance (including BMI, clothes, cleanliness, manners, gestures, body movement etc.) don't say something about a persons character. If it does, then why not use this initial source of information?

Given the context of speed dating, the study is hardly direct proof of love at first sight as the primary mechanism of choosing long term mates. However similar studies conducted in the 1980's took statistically controlled questionnaires among married or stable couples, and the results drawn from those studies indeed showed qualitatively identical conclusions.
Perhaps the "three seconds" quick decision needs to be qualified. For example some people consider vocal communication highly relevant for making any serious decision on a potential mate. I for example would not pass any judgement before I heard the girl speak her mind. "Thirty seconds since she opens her mouth," would be closer to the truth from my limited experience.
If the whole communication process was satisfying, and I could find a genuine person behind the face, then it becomes interesting and worth the while to investigate further. It's kind of like the SETI program, search for extraterrestrial intelligence, this time on earth. Anybody out there ?
