Why do some women fall for guys like this?
Wife of executed child killer hoped for more time with him
The woman who married Mamoru Takuma while he was on death row for killing eight schoolchildren said in a message Sunday she wished she could have spent some more time with him before he was executed Tuesday.

"I would like to extend my sincerest apologies for a grave crime committed by my husband that caused an irreparable result," Takuma's wife said in a message presented at a rally in Tokyo protesting his execution.

"I continued praying simply if I could establish a bond (with him) that is more like a love for family so that he would develop a heart that can understand the pain of others," the message read.

"I wanted at least some more time to continue dialogue with him," she said.

"I feel nothing but regret for having been unable to make him feel for the need of atonement," she said. "I was just powerless."

According to the woman, she was visited by a staff member of the Osaka Detention House at around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday and was notified of the execution.

The time of death was 8:16 a.m., she said. Before the execution, Takuma, 40, requested a cigarette and some juice from detention house staff and said he did not want to leave a will, she said.

But according to Takuma's wife, Takuma told the staff member, "Please tell (my wife) I said thank you."

He was unperturbed before the execution, she said.

The woman married Takuma in December last year, a few months after his death sentence was confirmed, and she was meeting him at the detention house.

The meeting Sunday was sponsored by human rights group Amnesty International's Japan unit and others. Around 60 people participated.

Takuma murdered eight children in 2001 at an Osaka school in an attack that shocked Japan. He was sentenced to death last year. He withdrew an appeal to a high court submitted by his defense team.

You say 'guys like this' but what do you actually know about him?

There's more to any human being that you can pick up from a newspaper article or two.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show?

The guy walked into an elementary school with a nice big knife and began randomly killing, maiming, and wounding both children and adults. As you can see, he succeeded in murdering eight kids. He is believed to have attempted poisoning coworkers by putting poison in the teapot prior to that. Twice.

That the crimes took place in 2001 and he has been hanged in 2004 says a whole lot by itself. In this land where courts typically move at a pace best measured in geological terms, that is amazingly swift justice.

Well to be a little less obscure it appears quite likely that he is what is usually called a psychopath but is often confused with Antisocial Personality Disorder.

One of the key features is often the ability to be superficially charming and highly convincing while lacking any genuine capacity for empathy or remorse.

Indeed psychiatrists dealing with such people in prison, despite being in the best possible position to know the truth, have been known to report almost being taken in. It's therefore not really so suprising that a random lay person would fall for his 'charms'.

Yeah, but she had to be seeking the guy out knowing he was a mass murderer of defenseless children. She's a bit of a nutjob herself.

Perhaps, but it still does nothing to explain why some women go after notorious jailed killers.....

are there many men that seek out jailed women of notorious backgrounds? This is what I'm trying to understand in my limited capacity....not having dealt with people with this background.

Yes, there is usually more to a human being than what can be picked out from a newspaper article or two, or even a news broadcast...so what do you think is the reason why a woman would seek out a killer and marry him, after it has been revealed he had divorced a number of times after the previous wives complained about spousal abuse? I still don't get it....

Some people seek out potentially abusive mates in a subconcious attempt to regain control.

Often times, these types were raised in a terribly chaotic, and abusive childhood. Look at most girls who are with a less than favorable guy, and more often than not, you'll find a history of abuse instigated by an authoritative male figure.

Re-creating the chaos, and abuse that was present in childhood in an adult life, is an instinctive reaction, and attempt to somehow find a way to control the situation.
