As Lily-san mentioned, ~こともあり/あって is used to explain the reason there. More specifically, this expression suggests that it's one of the reasons because of も. You might be able to find it in textbooks for JLPT N1.
Of course ~こともあり/あって can express a past experience, too.
e.g.
彼は旅行好きで、北極や南極にまで行ったこともあり/あって、今もアマゾンを旅している。
As you can see, 北極や南極にまで行った is not the reason of 今もアマゾンを旅している. Needless to say, you need to interpret the meaning of an expression from the context, not just from the seeming structure.
