How to buy stock in Japan

I have been living in Japan for about five years and its looking increasingly likely I will be here permanently.

I would like to invest in some stock and I feel now (or soon) will be a good time to invest in a couple of larger companies, as the price has dropped dramatically in recent weeks.

My question; What is the best way for a foreigner to buy stock in Japan? Does anyone recommend any companies to go through?

Thanks in advance for any help.

On-line brokerages

The simplest and cheapest way to do it is to use an on-line brokerage such as Monex or E-trade. If you need someone to guide you, you should try a full service brokerage that can be found at one of the major banks, MUFJ or Mizuho. I'm sure they have staff that can explain things to you in English but I think all documents may be completely in Japanese, at least that's how Fidelity works.

BTW, you're pretty gutsy to wade in now. With the Yen so strong now, you might be better off investing in your home country.

BTW again, shouldn't this be in one of the Japan topics above?
