How is it seen for a 26 year old to date a 20 year old in Japan?

I don't think such a situation is remarkable at all. Of course there's still a double standard so if the girl is older than the guy some people may be surprised or disapprove.

I think judging the age of Asian women from their looks is almost impossible. Unless the woman wears a tag on her telling her age no one will probably even wonder about it. When I was in Japan , we had a saying that any woman under 50 looked about 20. Girls in their 20's often looked about 12 years old. I think the more important issue is how old you look. If you have any grey hair and wrinkles , they might think you are robbing the cradle as they say. My very first girlfriend in Japan looked about 23 , close to my age. After a while , she confessed to me she was 43.
