Home made chopsticks!

Apparently, these chopsticks are made by just some random dude on their 3d printer in their house!

Is 3d printing big in Japan? Are the printers cheaper? I know you guys kick butt when it comes to technology so I would love to hear from someone who knows about this technology. If I can make stuff like this, I'm soooo making a replica of the Golden Temple in Kyoto . Really beautiful place (Was there last year). Arrigato Godiymas.

Actually, they have more impressive (Japan-related) 3D designs than chopsticks on that page. I really like the Asakusa Temple Grounds.

I couldn't help but wonder, with all the incredible things one could 3D print, why chopsticks? I could make chopsticks with a knife and a bit of wood in twenty minutes. Seems like 3D printing would be a lot of extra work for virtually no reason.

Now those Asakusa temple grounds are marvelous!

Japan is kind of anachronistic from what I've seen. Some stuff is just incredibly technologically advanced. For example, I loved the Maraikan, and Nissan global headquarters is right near where I used to live, and I walked through their showroom on my way home from Yokohama station every time I came home. Yet some stuff is really surprisingly not.

I don't know how big it is but earlier this year when I was there I happened across a FabCafe. ( FabCafe Tokyo ). I assume this is not the only place like this. I didn't go inside but I thought to myself, times have changed. I remember when there were Internet Cafes all over the place.

@thomas Yeah that design looks beautiful but a little too complex for me - I hope in time I can get to that stage. @WonkoTheSane - Chopsticks are beautiful man. They are like little art pieces @mdchachi - Thanks for the info! I would love to check it out. Not sure if I want to go to Tokyo anytime soon though . . .
