I just found some translations in the textbook which basically describes ほど to be "the ~, the ~" in English (among a few other meanings.) Most of the English of the Japanese sentences containing ほど translations follow this pattern, except for the following two sentences:
元気な人ほど無理をしがちだ - Stronger people tend to strain themselves more.
あまり働かない者ほど不平が多い - Lazier people complain more.
Am I to understand that these are simply stylistic changes in sentences? In other words, 元気な人ほど無理をしがちだ can also be translated as "The stronger someone is, the more they tend to overdo it" and あまり働かない者ほど不平が多い "The lazier someone is, the more the more complaints they have". Is this correct?
