I am trying to make a long-short-term-memory algorithm to find out the best tickers in the 500 spy stocks to trade. It trades the longs and the shorts based on the last 285 business days that I have data on. I have implemented a dropout rate of 0.1 on the explicit inputs and 0.5 on the hidden inputs (a). I have tried on russell 2000 as well as spy 500. But none has made any money at all (at least for the back testing that I had done). The cost function that I am using is the f1_score (more known as the precision and callback). I have 383^3*3=168,545,661 (168.5million training parameters), which is why training is so slow even on my macbook 13". I thought the machine above would save time, cost and energy in what I am interested to do.

If you ask me if I would make money with this algorithm. No, I don't. If I could make $200 in a week or even in a month, I wouldn't be here to ask someone to collaborate on a student deal for me. As an investor, you could feel very well how much confidence that I have.

No, I don't believe in crowdfunding. And I am not going to ask people to donate or give me money on something that I don't even have confidence myself. I have to be upfront with you, I am trying to write an machine learning algorithm that will trade money; it might be taking advantage of individual trades that might be poor living on their pension money or just a gambler that puts all his/her saving in the stock market.

Yes, $200 is not a big sum of money, but it is also not enough for me to put down the determination to spend all the $700 in something that I have no confidence in. If I had a university friend that could help saving the $200, I wouldn't be here asking for help. I thought $200 could be better spent making some friends and treating someone a lunch. But the reason I am here is probably more getting the deal itself than earning the $200.

All in all, if you are interested to make a friend and don't care about exchange email with a stranger, please send a direct message to me. If you think I am a scumbag that is just going to impersonate and trying to steal $200 on a corporation, then keep thinking that and go ahead closing this thread.

Sounds cool! It's really hard to train AI on the stock market, I'm assuming you have some sort of financial training? I didn't know the spy 500 but google tells me it's the US version of STOXX Europe 600 (which I've come across before). It's supposedly quite high risk which could explain the lack of money making?

Yeah, I just checked and it costs an absurd amount of money here in Denmark, too, $861 to be exact. It's a pretty big investment for something that has no guarantee to pay off. But at least you can use it for other projects if this one doesn't amount to anything.

I believe the gentlefolk who are currently living in Japan are a bit more sceptical/careful due to the fact that there have been quite a few scams going on in Japan, like the one @thomas mentioned. We've had a few people who come on here who have experienced scams in various forms. Perhaps if you'd been an old, established member, it wouldn't have been met with said scepticism so stick around, people are quite friendly here

All I can say is good luck, and be careful not to overleverage yourself. Here's a video summarizing a book that details the rise and fall of Long Term Capital Investment, which truly invokes images of Icarus flying too close to the sun. BTW, this Youtube channel is great for getting a taste for a lot of investment books. It's not the same as actually reading them, but it does give you a decent summary. (No, I'm not affiliated with it in any way.)

You should consider that probably 99% of such requests for help especially on the Internet are scams. So you should forgive us for the skepticism.

The last time I helped out a random stranger it worked out but still in hindsight I shouldn't have bothered. Last year I happened to be sitting in a bar in Roppongi exactly when a request for help came in to procure a Hard Rock Cafe Tokyo Sweatshirt which is just down the road from there. The guy was from Greece and he said they didn't have his size when he was in Japan and he collects these things. So I said I could help him out but then there's the conundrum of who might be scamming who. Maybe I want him to send me money to buy the sweatshirt and I'd not go through with the transaction. Or maybe he was trying to trick somebody into sending him a sweatshirt and not pay. In the end he paid half up front. I bought the sweatshirt and sent it to him and he paid the other half upon receipt. He did say thanks but he didn't give me a yen more than the transaction. If it were me, I'd be more appreciative and at least send a tip and say "buy yourself a beer." But the main reason in hindsight I shouldn't have done it is because I had to make my sister-in-law do the shipping which was some hassle for her.

I don't want to make it very superficial, but sorry for not been clear at the beginning as well. If you are interested to grab a coffee or beer together, I'd love to make friends. Otherwise, I can offer 2000yen for this hassle. I assume it will take 15min if everything goes smoothly. It's just resending/forwarding the email, so I don't think you will really be paying/shipping something.
