When I first read those headlines I thought "okay, that's not that funny", but it's actually true. Hello Kitty is the official tourism ambassador of Japan. Check out this article to find out why in the hell Japan would actually do that and why it's a sweet idea:

Go to 236 dotcom. sorry I can't post the actual URL but it's on the frontpage.

Kind of cute!

I bet it gets hot inside that outfit.

That Kitty is a big girl. She can handle the heat.

Takes me back to when I was a pre-schooler. A boy version of plush Kitty and I were inseperable. For a lot of people of my generation, Hello Kitty brings back fond memories of the childhood. For me, my Kitty (キティちゃん)was a very good friend who would comfort me whenever I was feeling a little down. I wonder whatever happened to my Kitty. I don't think my mother wants to hear " What did you do with my Hello Kitty doll?" from her son who is pushing 40...so I will never know. lol

Pop culture icons breed good will.

Water tanks in Iraq, the same tactic.
