Hello and greeting!

Hello everyone! I wanted to introduce myself before I start jumping in on the fun.

My name is Nancy and I'm a 42 years old accountant. My father met my mother in Japan while he was stationed in the Army. He brought her back to the United States and they've been together ever since.

On Christmas, my parents and I were discussing her family. Her ancestor was Honda, Tadakatsu (Honda being his last name). The legend is -- he was a brilliant samurai , albeit mean. I started to search for some information on him and my roots.

I visited Japan when I was 12 and met many family members. I was too young to appreciate the beautiful culture and people. I've been wanting to get in touch with my family without my mother knowing. I would love to surprise her one day by having some of her family visit the US.

Anyways, as I was looking up information on Beppu (my mother's hometown) and stubbled onto this forum.

This forum and the people, seem very interesting and I'm looking forward to interacting with you.

Welcome to the Forum. It is a great place packed with good information and some REAL nice people. I spent a few days in Beppu back in the early 70's, a nice resort area there. I hope the Forum leads to information to help you.It would be nice if you could go on a vacation/relative hunting trip to Japan now that you can appreciate it more. Hope to read some more of your posts in the future and maybe meet you in the chat room.

I'm of many nationalities. My mother was Japanese and my father was Irish, Scottish, Bohemium and Polish. When I was 12 and visiting Japan, it was quite obvious that I was a tourist. Regardless, it's a place I would love to visit again.

In your stay in Beppu, did you get to visit any hot spring baths? I remember how wonderful and relaxing they were. I can only imagine the town has changed dramatically in 20 years.

Konnichiwa everyone! Arigato gozaimasu for all your warm welcomes! That is about the extent of my japanese language.

As I am investigating my ancestors, I am becoming more and more interested. When my daughters came home after spending the day at my mother's house, they informed me that they were royalty. I had to laugh, real hard. I replied "Royalty doesn't clean their own room. Now go clean your rooms." My mother is exagerating her new found history.

If anything else, the history has only encouraged me more to educate myself on my roots.
