Hawaii as part of Japan.

Half the cities of Japan had already been destroyed by US carpet bombing before the first atomic bomb was dropped. In the first night of carpet bombing, 100,000 civillians were killed in Tokyo. General Curtis Lee thought this was such an effective method that he and Robert McNamara (later to become US Secretary of Defence) went and did the same thing to the rest of Japan. The bomb was complete overkill like Mycernius said.

As an aside, McNamara claims that had the allies not won WWII, both he and Lee would have been tried as war criminals.

The general to whom you refer was General Curtis E. LeMay. During WWII General LeMay distinguished himself as an air combat leader in the European theater before being assigned to the Pacific, taking over the US Army Air Corps B-29's and ordering fire bombing raids on most major Japanese cities, as well as overseeing the operation of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the war, Gen. LeMay organized the Berlin airlift, and as the cold war began, he was given command of the fledgling USAF Strategic Air Command, developing it into the most awesome strategic strike force of the cold war. His final duty was as Air Force Chief of Staff. He was one of the most controversial and outspoken American military leaders of the late 20th century.

Like many other Japanese, I also love Hawaii very much.
I've been there 3 times and still feel like to visit there again and again.

We sometimes say jokingly to refer Hawaii as 窶愿ｺ窶怒ﾂ坂?佝地ﾆ陳照辰ﾅ陳ｧﾂ（Hawaii Prefecture, Japan)
But, It's only for a JOKE and there is no intention to offend any Americans or Hawaiians.
It's because Waikiki beach is full of Japanese tourists, so you don't feel like you are in America.

Also,since one third of the Hawaiian population is made up with Japanese descent,
we feel very welcoming atomosphere compare to other U.S.cities or states.

If you are from English speaking countries, you can travel to USA, UK, Australia, NZ, Canada. Etc..
without any language barriers. And most of the countries you don't need to speak languages other than English.
So, it may be hard to imagine for you how the Japanese (especially, older people who don't understand English at all)
feel relaxed when they stay in Hawaii.

I admire the early Japanese migrants to Hawawii for their struggle in harsh work conditions and
the way they gained reputation there. And I'm proud of them.That's one of the reason I love Hawaii.

Anyway, Hawaii's got a perfect mixture of Polinesian, Western and Asian cultures and I felt the all of these cultures have a equalities
of statas.

Though, I felt very uncomfortable when I visited the Pearl Harbour Memorial.
Some western visitors gave us a look of reproach saying "Dirty JAP!" :sorry:

It seems that the only Americans who are still angry with Japan are the older ones who lived through WWII.

That's a shame. Anybody should be able to visit that memorial without being called names or getting looks.

Have you been to any places besides Waikiki/Honolulu? I'd say those areas are the worst part of Hawaii.

I personally wouldn't say it's the worst part. It's just a regular city, that's all, and if you already live in a large city, Honolulu won't interest these people much. There are other places that are not part of Honolulu that aren't exactly too great.
You'd have to travel out a bit further (or other islands) to enjoy the more scenic land, sea, mountain, sky--the relaxing places Hawaii has to offer and what most advertisements makes Hawaii seems to be like.

Yes, I know they are absolutely not the representative of the Americans.
Though,I think it's natural for the Americans becoming more
"patriotic" than usual after visiting that sort of place.
It's quite understandable. The Americans may recieve same sort of treatment -very unlikely though I guess, when they visit A-bomb Museum in Hiroshima. Have you ever heard of the Americans who said something unpleasent there? If so, I apologise on behalf. :sorry:

However, I was impressed by the comment of former president George Bush (father of G.W.Bush ) at the end of the exhibition in Pearl Harbour.
He said something like this "I fought with the Japanese during WW2 as a fighter plane pilot, and shot down by the Japanese. But I don't have bad feelings against the Japanese anymore.We( Japan& USA) have to get over the unfortunate past and walk toghether towards future."

I hired a car and drove around Oahu Island then visited place like Hanauma Bay, Sunset Beach, Nuuanu Pali..Etc.

I prefer quiet places away from the crowd, but I still like Honolulu for shopping and dining out.

I also visited Kauai Island the other time.Waimea Canyon was great! I don't need to go all the way down to Grand Canyon, do I ?

There's so many places to see in Hawaii.So, I will keep exploreing.
