Having Trouble Getting Permission to Japan

Hi, forum is awsome thanks to all.

Im 16 (17 in early June) and wanted to go to Japan for one week to meet up with some friends. I found a cheap ticket agent, I have the money, its just not the permission from my gaurdian. >_< I have school the following week in late April and my gauradian says that "Tokyo is not that safe," even though she has been there to experience it herself last year with me. I know how to get around, I can speak the language and won't be by myself 90% of the time. I think she just "doesnt want to let me go," although she insistes its just too young to go half around the world. Ive told/asked numerous times.

Any ways to convince her? Any suggestions or plans?

This is a difficult problem for you. I don't know what sort of age you are no longer considered a minor in Canada so it is a little difficult on the age issue. I have read that Tokyo is one of the safer cities in the world, but I have never been. Another problem I can see is if you are male or female. If you are female I can see it from your guardians perspective. Despite the liberated woman era they are still more at risk than men. If you are a young lad then your guardian might be worried about what you might get up to in Tokyo. I know I did silly things when I was a teenager. Your guardian is concerned about you and your safety and you must really work on them to persuade them to let you go. You might get a little ammo from people off this forum, but I really think it will not really help. After all your guardians don't know us. Another matter is what is the average age group you are going with. Are there any responsible adult going with you or are you all the same sort of age? You must try to see this from their point of view and try to win them over with reasoned logic. I don't know if this reply is any use to you, but at least there might be some hope for you. Let us know if you manage to go

probably you can try to establish serious contacts (mail) to people in tokyo.
they may make your guidance persons mood change.
