If you were gay, how much of a shock would it be to the Japanese people? For example, holding hands in public as 2 men or kissing in public with a man?

Japanese people don't ever kiss in public between men and women. I'd go as far as to say that they never, or virtually never, do this. I don't see too many people holding hands either.

Little man and woman kiss in public in Asian country I think.
Do Japanese have prejudice on gay or lesbian?

I see quite a few young people being intimate with each other in public nowadays. Certainly nowhere like in America for instance but holding hands, cuddling, even kissing, etc is not as taboo as it used to be. As far as being gay and open about it... well I have no clue but I think in almost 10 years time having lived in three different cities I have only ever seen such public displays of affection TWICE. Draw your own conclusions lol.

Probably not anymore shocking than just being a foreigner, but I would avoid it (or any PDA beyond hand holding) since Japan still is a pretty conservative country outside of its cosmo cities.
