Foreign Women on Television

Something I've noticed recently is the role of foreigners on Japanese television. Has anyone noticed how the majority of foreigners appearing on television are women? I've caught a lot of shows lately with panel type discussions with all the participants being of the female gender.

Did anyone see the show on Wednesday night? There was a Romanian chick traveling around rural Japan talking to the people, and she was a total 窶堙披?堙ｨ窶堙?ｽq(cutesy, child-like woman). I found it to be a bit sickening, to be honest. Other foreign women are usually represented as noisy and domineering.

The only Western men I see on Japanese television tend to be language teachers or the occasional ﾅ?Oﾂ坂?伉人ﾆ耽ﾆ椎槌停?愴暖ﾂ ﾂ「窶堋ｪ窶堋｢窶堋ｱ窶堋ｭ窶堋ｶ窶堙ｱﾆ耽ﾆ椎槌停?愴暖ﾂ」. What is the reason for this? Do Japanese just have the hots for Western women, or is it something that goes deeper, culturally?

Can you be a little more specific?

I watch "aichiteru" with my girlfriend every week, and its hilarious. These girls are real - the bitchiness, naivety and opinions come through without being too Japanised or censored. Everyone else is just providing a stereotype that people want or expect.

Sorry, I don't remember what channel it was on. But it had the women panel of foreigners and the Romanian girl wandering around the countryside. I think it was on around 11PM... anyway, I just think it's strange how foreign women often appear on television but rarely men, aside from occasional talent or language teachers.

On a side note, I think it's funny how three of the top four topics in the Culture Shock forum involve women, at the time of this writing.
