Hey guys,
I'm going to Japan mid october, and the first few days are pretty up in the air. What do you guys recomend? I plan on arriving in Narita and trying to find the most inexpensive hostel or anything similar. I won't have a job when I first arrive, so I'm going to try to keep train and lodging costs to a minimum. Do you guys have any recomendations?

Are you going to Japan without a place to stay in at all? Or are you just hosteling for fun?

For my first few days I was pretty depressed so I walked around and found a park where I can play soccer with another girl who is here (different program, same school.) That cheered me up a bit. Basically I just oriented myself for the first bit, found out how to walk places, where stuff was, etc. So I could be more independant.

Yeah, if you are here for a while just spend the first few days settling in.

Get too know where all the necessities are in your area, apply for your gaijin card, maybe make one trip into the nearest major urban area, get a ketai, track down the local bar where gaijin hang out (INVALUABLE), call ya family.

If you're gunna live here no need to rush things.
